I'm pretty sure that last week, after Molly J returned home from her surgery, I heard her chant, "Drugs are great! Drugs are neat! Now I only have three feet! " Today, she hinted that she'd like to meet Nancy Reagan. She'd been taking all her meds so nicely, wrapped up in various soft treats. But today, she started spitting out the pill and just saying, "No." I've started placing them in the back of her mouth and rubbing her neck til she swallows. But I'm looking for other tricks you may have used.

Ok, pilling is a big topic here. we've done a lot of posts here and there, here's two recent posts with some ideas that may help get those pills down:

We have been using E-Z Med Holes that we get at the vet's office. They are very pliable and smash around the pill with no problem. Gus has to take two pills every other day for his skin condition. One of them is Huge! I give him that one first and immediately give him the second, smaller one. He gulps them down without even trying to chew. Of course, it probably helps that Murphy is standing there offering to take them for him. We tried the Pill Pockets, but these work way better. And the Pill Pockets that used to come in Duck and Pea have been discontinued, so their on,y varieties now have chicken in them and Gus doesn't get chicken.

Kathi and Murphy

Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!

UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!

That's a new one, never heard of 'em before and apparently neither has Amazon, I couldn't find them on there which is surprising. Are they by prescription only?

Thank you, Tripawd peeps. I'll check out those suggestions. We've used the pill pockets before. They're just soooooooooo stinky. I guess that's what makes them good. ;)

Petsmart also sells Pill pockets. I usually use regular cheese or cream cheese. They also sell a plunger like device at Petsmart that sends it back their throat. I got away with that one time and one time only. Waste of 4 bucks. Good luck! Lori and Ty

I used the pill gun for Sassy's chemo pills which Rene (aka Jerry) told me about & you can get them at Petsmart etc that is because you aren't supposed to touch the chemo pills.   Before that I bought the EZ cheese in the snack cracker isle in your regular grocery store.  She just used to lick it right off my hand

We usually just stuff pills in the homemade wet food we feed and maneuver so the dog's head is tipped back so they have to swallow. We also use Greenies pill pockets and they love those. We also got a free sample of Tomlyn Pill Masker and the dogs went crazy for it! It comes in a jar and you take what you need and stuff the pills in. Its stanky but not in a real bad way. Kinda smells like Slim Jims. It does have wheat flour and corn syrup as the top ingredients though.

Good luck! Rock that recovery Molly J!
