February of this year, I had posted my situation that people here on tripawd helped me to decide what to do with my dog who had osteosarcoma. She had her left front leg amputated and recovered very well. She was able to go back to her normal activity without any problem. She lost weight due to her diet after surgery. Just last week, we started to notice that she is losing her balance. It might be her other front leg which is getting a lot of stress and pressure to hold her weight. We also noticed that she pee inside the house. She is there in front of the door but something is stopping her to go outside to pee. She will pee on her blanket or on the kitchen mat. After she pee, then she will go outside but after a couple of steps she will stop and just lay on the floor. I can tell that her remaining front leg is causing this.

it’s breaking my heart to see her like this again. We are going to see the vet to find out what is really going on. I just wanted to know if anyone here had a situation like this. She is our first baby and it sad to see that we have to deal with this again. I never had a proper sleep for couple nights now just to monitor her (with video monitor). She stays downstairs and we have a 3 y/o son and 7month old girl that i sleep with upstairs.

Please help. I need your advice. Thank you!

Mae I'm glad you posted here. I gave you my feedback in your blog, hope that it helped a little. When exactly will you be seeing the vet? Is this the first time you've gone for this condition?

You're not alone, others have had mobility challenges, I promise. Search for "Atlas" or "Bailey", two danes who overcame a LOT, and are doing great. Hang in there OK/

We will see the vet tomorrow at 11:30am. Yes, this is the first time we've seen her like this after she recovered from surgery. As every minute goes by, her situation is getting worse. Now, she won't go outside. She can't hold her weight and really struggling a lot. Kelila is trying so hard to get up but you can tell that her remaining front leg is getting a lot of pressure.

Hello Mae.  I've been away from the site for several weeks and have been catching up tonight.  You have been on quite a roller-coaster these last months!  I just wanted to add my prayers and best wishes for your Kelila.  As Sally said, it may be some little thing that looks big.  You are in our hearts.

Hello,

I am thankful that you are there listening. I just went downstairs to see my baby kelila. I talked to her for a little bit and told her just to hang in there. In a couple of hours, we will the vet to get her checked. I told her that I will be watching her and be there when she needs me. Who knows what kind of pain she is going through. After reading couple forums, i've read stories who had a very similar situations that i am going through right now. Unfortunately, their babies have passed. It is so hard not to cry while writing this. I hate negative thoughts but it's hard to avoid it.

She ate a little bit. We tried to bring her outside but she can't do it. I said ok if she makes accidents again on her bed. I truly understand!! She is very uncomfortable than her one day post-op. At least then, with assistance, she'll hop with a happy face. Now, can't hop without slipping or falling and she looked distressed. I don't think I'll be able to sleep. I don't mind watching her on monitor all night. I just want to be there if anything happens. I love her so badly and it breaks my heart to see her like this.

Thanks Sally for being there!

MAE! Still here with you kiddo! Looks like Roxie's m o m is still u p too.

Not.sure which post you read, but in no way have all dogs paaes.....or.if so...it wasn't because of these symptons.

Do y o u have any tramadol or pain meds from the amp. Surgery you could give her?

Have you tried GE.TLE message to see if she reacts i n any certain areas? Do y ou still have scatter rugs down? Does she seem in.pain? Could even be kidney or bladder st o nes.

Of course.this is scare to you and of course you are concerned....we're humans...that's how we react! Just remember, she's not scared, worried or concerned!!!! Try and remember, this may be nothing major at all!!!! So stay in the present with her...in the now...and let nothing rob yo u of your time together! She is with you...you are together...and that's good!!!

Glad she ate.some.....that's a good sign.

IM STILL UP A BIT L O NGER.....love in Virginia...how bout y o u?

B R E A T H E......B R E A T H E......devour chocolate in between breaths!

She is on tramadol and today we started giving her rimadyl. She doesn't seem to be in pain. She just can't do things that she normally do. I saw her trying to get up so I rushed right away downstairs. I am here to help her but she won't do it. She is resting again.

We are here in sunny california. We have the ac on so kelila and the rest of us could have a good night sleep.

I'm so sorry that Kelila has been having a rough time.  I really don't have any advice or words of wisdom to offer as my Leland never experienced what your Kelila is.  I just wanted to let you know that Kelila and your family are in my thougts and I hope things go well at the vet office.

Keep in mind that dogs are very good at hiding their pain so if she can't get up or is reluctant, that is one big sign that she is hurting. Rimadyl may not be enough to get the pain under control right now.

I hope things went well at the vet today. Where in Southern CA are you? There are lots of excellent vet rehab specialists there, I know of a few I can recommend depending on where you are. If you don't like the answer from your current vet then it's time for a second opinion.

Keep us posted OK?

We are here in San Diego. We were up at 4am and checked her. She seems to be getting weaker. She can't get up anymore to the point that I have to bring her the water bowl to drink. And again, she pee'd on her bed. My brother came to visit. He used the doorbell and no bark from her. This is the first time she did not bark on the door bell. I don't know what to think anymore. I know there is something really going on.

She hates going to the vet. It is causing a lot of stress already for her. How can she handle all this things if right now, she can't get up and walk. The other day she tried to get up. But last night, it becomes worse and can no longer do it. Oh how I wish there is a little something that we could to ease the pain.

Hello Mae,
I am so sorry to be reading this change of events with your sweet Kelila......I know this must be so hard for you.

You said the vet stresses her, but you may have to get her there, if just to find out what is going on with her, whether good, or not so good, at least you will know and be able to deal with her situation. Trust me, we have all traveled this difficult journey, and it does have bumps in the road, but our ultimate goal is to do what is the best for our fur babies. Keeping them pain free and comfortable is very important.

Decisions with everything during this journey, can be very stressful and we never feel like we are doing the right thing......I always say, there is no right or wrong, as long as you have Kelila's best interest at heart.

Please continue to keep us updated on her, and give her a big hug and kiss from me......
Keeping you and her in my thoughts and prayers.....
Love,
Bonnie & Angel Polly

Yes, I also agree with Bonnie, she needs to be checked out so you can start whatever treatment is necessary.

I hear you loud and clear about not taking her to the vet if she hates it.

A couple of solutions......there have to be many, many "home vet.services" in the San Siego area...and many with mobile units with xray, the ability to.run blood tests, etc.
Take.a.moment to go on line.and find them. Severe leg weakenss can be caused by.so.many things...some.scary.and some.NOT so.scary. Maybe your brother could help do some research and calls for you so you can just snuggle with Kelila.

And the hardest part for you right now...so very hard...try and sta y cenetered and calm and confident. Yeah, "something".is going on, but unless you find out.otherwise stay focused.on this being treatable and continue to maintain her quality. Whatever happens, you will always make decision sout of.love.and.for Kelila's well being. You always.have and you always will.

We're.with you.....we understand as best anyone can. This journey just sucks sometimes. Your Kelila is staying in the moment and enjoying being so.loved.and sp o iled. That's all she wants and that makes her happyy.

Sending hugs to yu both, lots and.lots of hugs.

Sally and Happy Hannah

I am so happy she got through the surgery well. My 100 pound 8 year old Rottweiler had his surgery Thursday and came home yesterday. Dropping him off was one of the hardest things I have ever done, but picking him yesterday made me feel much better. I would suggest baby gates to keep your pup away from stairs. We also gated off our breakfast nook Guinness is the type of dog who even follows me to the bathroom. Since we have all tile and hardwood floors, I asked on our community forum for yoga mats and they are working well (that was a suggestion from this site). We also made a sling from a canvas grocery bag to help our boy up and down the deck stairs and that is working well too. the surgery was extremely hard on us financially and I have been looking for other places to cut costs. Good luck to you and I hope seeing your pup today makes the weight lift off your shoulders a bit.
