Everything Athla has given you and everything you have found in yourself by virtue of your relationship will always be with you. Love does not go away. Ever. While we will all lose our furbabies some day, they will always be part of us.❤️
Otis - 106 pound lab/Dane mix, lost his right front leg to osteosarcoma on Febuary 9, 2016. Four rounds of carboplatin completed in April, 2016. Lung mets August 25, 2016. Said goodbye too soon on September 4, 2016. Lost his adopted sister, Tess, suddenly on October 9, 2016. likely due to hemangiosarcoma.
Wherever they are, they are together.
Athia is truly your Master Professor and you are a stellar student!! This journey is never "just about amputation".''It is chock full of life lessons, enlightenment and the growth of the Soul.
There is nothing like the love of our dogs or cats to show us a path towards strength and renewal. Athia is leading you on a journey where the real you is summoned...the brave, confident, empowered, loveable and wise you!
Because your love for Athis is sooooo strong, from this point forward you will vow to her you won't waste one second about worrying about the tomorrows! All that matters to Athia is being with you NOW!! To "grieve" for what you have not lost, takes you away from the gift of time you have with Athia now.
We love you
Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
((((hugs)))) .... your recent post struck me as I was there a couple years ago. And as much as I wanted to always be "suzy sunshine" that dark cloud gloomed in the back of my head. If I could go back and change anything about my journey with cancer, it would be ME. Shelby was the most amazing rockstar and her life lessons continue to guide me now ... even though she is no longer physically by my side ... she is always in my heart!
Enjoy each day as the true gift that it is!!! So much love to you!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
Our Max taught me life lessons that serve me well to this day. He taught me to live each day joyously and fully like he did. He taught me not to look to tomorrow's to just live today. He taught me if I worried about tomorrow I lost my today. Sounds like your beautiful Athla knows those same life lessons my smart Max did. Dogs have the blueprint to life down pat it's us humans that have trouble with it.
Hugs,

I wonder if any in this group have read the novel, Sight Hound? Based on the author's real life experience, it is the story of a woman and her Irish Wolfhound, Dante, who develops OSA, has an amputation and also happens to be a Buddhist (Dante, not his human). The book is told from various character's point of view, and frequently from Dante's. His mission in life is to help his human evolve and accept love into her life and truly live. Lovely book.
How remarkable and special that Athla is helping you in a similar way.

On October 27, 2016, nearly 6 months after amputation, and 18 months since his cancer likely started, we lost Pofi to a recurrence of Soft Tissue Sarcoma in his spine quite suddenly. His canine sister also succumbed to cancer on March 1, 2019 - we lavished her with our love in the interim, but life was never quite the same without her only real canine friend. Cliff kitty had to leave us, too, suddenly, in August 2019. Lucia kitty grieved all these losses, but helped us welcome two new Lurchers into our home and our lives, Shae and Barley.
