I was in the worry group as well, but holy cow hectic is an understatement. My heart goes out to you, you sound like you are handling it like a champion, but it all sounds really overwhelming. With that said, I still had a big sigh of relief and am glad that Honor is doing relatively well.
I would have waited a week as well for what it's worth. Hope life stops slinging more at you, just know we're always here for support/venting outlet or whatever else you may need
Well, apparently I didn’t have enough on my plate. I had taken my mixed breed dog (our “small” 65 lb girl), Darcy, to the vet the week before last for a gastrointestinal issue. While there, I pointed out a small lump near her ribcage. The vet felt confident it was just a lipoma (benign fatty tumor) and said she could do a fluid aspiration if it would give me peace of mind, but she didn’t think it was really necessary. I told her to go ahead and do it. I just got the cytology report back this week and it noted that “rare spindle cells” were found so it advised surgical removal and sending it in to determine what it is. 🙁 Surgery is scheduled for Sept. 1. Just hoping it’s nothing… or something cured by removal as I can’t imagine getting another terminal diagnosis right now. She is almost 10. She and Honor really love each other. He lets her get away with so much more than our female Great Pyrenees!
Honor is still doing well. Unfortunately, though, he continues to favor his unaffected leg and we are well past the point where I can expect it to get any better than this. It always seems especially bad when he first gets up from laying down. I asked the vet I saw last time if the way he was walking was a common result after radiation and he that it is. I’m still very undecided on whether to go ahead with the cementoplasty or not and, of course, the chemo makes things difficult because I have to time it for when he won’t have low platelets and I feel like he is more prone to infection etc. when his immune system is being beat down. UGH. If only there were some easy answers. These past 2 weeks have been good in these sense that he has been feeling much better….so much so that he really wants to run or play at times and, of course, he can’t. Trying my best to keep him engaged with our outings, puzzle type food games and short walks! It’s been great seeing him have his appetite and interest level fully back. The fur area/whiskers under his nose grew back in and I have to think that was from the chemo. Unfortunately, chemo is tomorrow and this is only the 2nd one. I’m strongly leaning towards no more than 4. For one, I want it finished so that, if we do have an issue where amputation is needed, I’m not having to worry about high risk surgery due to low platelets and a weakened immune system. For another, I would assume chemo would be important after amputation. I hate the though of doing 6 now then having to do another 6 after amputation! If that theory is true that once you amputate, the chemo is really needed to stop the micro metasasis then why am I having him do so much chemo now? I don’t think anyone really has the answers to these questions. Will post some photos in a bit.
Woah I'm so sorry for the extra worries! I hope that Darcy's report comes back as nothing to worry about, we all do. Meanwhile try as hard as you can to stay pawsitive. I know that is so hard at a time like this.
Good to hear Honor is doing well otherwise. You are taking such great care of him without risking his leg, I hope his good mobility and happiness continues for a long long time!
Great photos!
First of all, .lpve seeing the c.ose up of the spectacularly handsome Honor! Sich an exquisite pupper! And then to see him with the gorgeous Darcy is an extra bonus.
Goodness knows it's certainly been your time at the "bottome of the barrel". Gesz, enough! All paws crossed for a food oitcome for that dang nasty lump! If has to be removed I would think that would take care of it.
Soooo glad Honor is eating better! Great news! And hearing he is feeling good and wants to play is also great news!
No inaight on the choices you are still struggling with. Can say that four rounds of Carboplatin has been proven to be the standard these days. Of course, check without Onco.
You are a very strong hooman but vetter times need to come your way...NOW!!
Thanks again for the smile making photos😊

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Just got back from Honor‘s 2nd chemo appt. His regular Dr was back. She said she was dropping his chemo dose even lower based on his reaction to the first one but, if he has the same problems, then she thinks he just can’t tolerate this chemo medication. She said she wouldn’t feel comfortable going any lower than this because she doesn’t think it would be effective. Also, sticking to a 4 week schedule. So, anyway, here is hoping things go better this time around.
Your Onco certainly explainsrd everything effectively and with knowledga and thought. She, has Honor's well being at the forefront and that's the kind of medical team you wanr..
All paws crossed for morhong vit good days ahead!!! Cheering for you sweet Honor!!

Darcy had her surgery Fri and is doing well. Now, we’re just waiting on the pathology report.
Honor still seems to be doing better after the reduced dose of chemo. We’re at 10 days after now. Last time, I think it was Day 11 when he lost appetite and wouldn’t drink anything.
A little excitement yesterday morning when I took Honor outside on our street, looked down at my phone as someone was calling and felt him lunge on the leash. I looked up expecting to see a squirrel or bunny, but it was a large bear…about 12 ft from us! I told him to LEAVE IT (normally 5 percent chance of working if he is off leash in the yard and sees a bear). Fortunately, he did listen (begrudgingly) and let me pull him back to our house. I have no doubt he would defend me at all costs, but he is smart and knows not to start a fight. The bear seemed satisfied I was moving my dog away. The main thing running through my head was that I didn’t want him to fracture his leg!
Good to know Darcy is recovering! Give her extra smooches from us!
Honor is so unstoppable! OMD chasing a BEAR?!!! YIKES!!! I'm glad you are both safe and unharmed. You are such an incredible dog mom too, only thinking about his leg during a bear encounter! WOW!
We have our paws crossed he doesn't have any side effects. Keep us posted.
