Hey Mary and Linda,

Thanks for the support! Also Mary, Hector sounds a lot like Hercules in the sense of he likes to chew anything new. My test for when he's feeling better is when the tiger toy he's been given has become stuffing. He is doing a lot better, just struggling to figure out if excessive panting is from tramadol or pain. He also has developed a small infection where his loose skin has been getting stuck to his wound which is irritating. Luckily he's going to his vet for a check up tomorrow. We have also been having trouble with him going to the toilet. He is refusing to go when outside and is clearly uncomfortable and then yesterday he had an accident. Again something we can discuss with our vet. Very pleased with his mobility though, he's getting the hang of it!

Did your dogs get very bored on bed rest? Trying to think of ways to keep him entertained as he is used to normally going on walks 3 times a day but obviously not he's confined primarily to his bed.

Hi Emma and the Magnificent Hercules!!

I KNOW this recovery period seems like it will.last forver and.I'm.sure you are exhausted.from.the.stress and lack of sleep. This is just four days into recovery.....very, very early into recovery and he is just not ready to party quite yet!!!

It's sometimes harder for boy dogs to figure out going to the toilet than girl dogs.....yet another sign of women having superior intelligence!winker Actually the meds can .com ake peeing and pooping be out of whack for a bit and keep them a little c o nfused as to when they have to go, or even hiw to go!

I'm glad the Tramadol has helped to.take the edge off a bit. By now all.the hospital meds are out of his system so he needs these pain meds now.

How much does Hercules weigh? What dose is he on and how frequently? Yes, panting is a sign of pain...ears pinned back, sometimes.whining and restlessness. AND, of course, just to make this journey even more complicated, these symptons.are.often what.the.side.effects of the pain meds look like! Crazy, crazy journey!

Have we celebrated apoop yet?..yeah, we celebrate anything around.here! .sorry he had a pee accicdent...but at least he peed! YAAAAAAY. HERCULES!!!clap

He will be feeling better bit.by.bit. I'm glad you are already seeing improvement in his mobility...that is absolutely.wo.derful!!! YAAAAAAY. HERCULES!

And YOU are doing a great job!! Give yourself a big pat on the back! Really! Do it now...we are all watching! Yeah, that was a fine pat on the back! Well doneclap

Give us an update after the vet visit....and pictures of Herc when you can!!!

Hugs to all!

Sally and Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle too!

Hi Emma and Herc

Hope your visit to the vet went well, and Herc is doing ok. Yes, Hector and Herc seem similar in many ways in particular about shredding things. We struggled getting Hector to settle, as he is a very bouncy dog, and wants to go on more walks than are advisable, but the change to his meds a few days ago has calmed him down a bit. Hector struggled at first going to the toilet, in particular lifting his leg, as he kept toppling over. He has now worked out squatting, or balancing himself against a tree. It is only today 7 days post op that he has started eating properly, as up until now we have had to hand feed him. So far every day Hector gets stronger, and I hope this continues as he is so brave and inspirational. He managed to meet some of his doggy friends yesterday and that really picked him up. He has also buried his bone in his shredded bed, which he likes to lie on and mess up. When he lies in the mound of brown stuffing it is hard to find Hector in there, so much so that we could'ent find him this morning and started to nearly panic, but there he was fast asleep, snoring away and covered in stuffing!

Good luck, and keep us posted on Herc's progress.

Thank you so much, and it is so lovely seeing the old Hector coming back to us, and the loss of his leg is not impacting too much on his cheery nature. I just really hope that Hector continues to improve, and that the adrenal gland tumour will stay quiet and in the background.

I am just so glad that I found Tripawds, as you have all been such a great strength and support to me and Hector.

All the best.

Hello everyone,

Hercules is doing very well however still no poo but hoping its because of the meds. Can i just ask did anyone experience hard swelling around the stitches? We think its a bit infected so he's on more antibiotics but theres a part of his skin next to the wound which is hard and swollen. His skin also moves sometimes by itself which i know can be a side effect of phantom pain . But we're all not sure whats normal and what isn't with the wound?

Hi Emma, glad to hear he's moving around so well. I would definitely have your vet look at that incision just to be sure, not all wounds usually have that happen. hopefully it's not an infection. As for the twitching, that doesn't sound like phantom pain , it's pretty normal though and usually painless unless there's vocalization/whining going on when it happens.

Let us know what the vet says aabout the wound.
