Yesterday (July 12) Sam celebrated lucky #13. We went for a walk (hey, 500 meters is a long way for some of us ), had a delightful cake ("we" didn't have this--only Sam. I like Jelly beans okay, and the Petco treat bar cookies are actually palatable, but I draw the line at Alpo and Fancy Feast.), wore fancy hats (again, only the birthday boy. His dignity was lost years ago...I'm still trying to preserve some of mine), and opened presents.
Here, to keep Sally happy , is a pictorial essay of the event--and some bonus footage of baby Sampson!
(Here's a link to his Facebook album, too, which has baby pictures, medium pictures, and grown up ones : https://www.fac.....038;type=3 )
Baby Sam-dog, the day I brought him home (and washed him off...being one of more than a dozen puppies in a litter, in a single pen at the humane society makes for smelly doggies :p). He's about 8-9 weeks old.
Somewhere around 3 months
Getting older! Around 5 months
Ah, the halcyon days when both my husband (then my younger-man boyfriend :p) and my dog were just bebbies (I think this was after P. and I had been dating around 6 months. Sam seemed to have adopted him okay. :p)
And now...PARTY FOOTAGE!
The cake and presents (Sam loves Jelly beans. )
The man of the hour
Waiting patiently.
Waiting less patiently. "Yes! Cake please! Now."

Ohhhhh yeah!!!! I'm getting much needed "picture fix" for the day!! One little "kink" thoigh....I excitedly clicked onto the facevook link and it just took me to the tripawds homepage....did amyone else have this problem? Hope I can figure it out.
Meghan, these photos are just delightful! It really shows what a cutie pie he is......and so is your halcyon-younger-boyfriend at the time-husband:-)
Sampson REALLY is a very handsome man. I can see why you fell in love with him when you first saw him as a puppy...sooooooo adoravle. His coloring is quite unique too.....love that striking glack muzzle.
Let me tell you what Sam, if it meant getting dressed up in a human's version of "birthday suit for dog", kt was well worthnit just to get your great cake and presents!! We're not jidging you....we understand what you're dealing with:-)
Look at you focusing on that cake!! Now that's how we do it folks....living in the present and not worried about a thing----keep your eyes on the prize and kmow your outcome!!
You clearly have one of the mst fabulous cakes in the land! And being a touch nyped up on pred., I bet you ate the whole thing!!
Meghan, your love and dedication to your boy are to be admired! You are one million percent committed to his quaility and clearly have mastered being more dog! And don't doubt for one second that Sammer doesn't know that he is indeed, immersed in pure, love every day!
Your contributions to this community are invaluabe. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, your time, your compassion and your humor:-) And, perhaps, most importantly, for sharing Sam's journey. He is TRULY an amazing dog who is taking himself into "seniorhood" with great dignity and grace while feeing good and living a life that matters. Isn't that what we all want!
I showed Hapoy Hannah a picture of Sam's cake and she tried to eat the computer! As soon as I get the slobber off, I'll try and see if I can get the facebook link to work.
We're over here celebrating with ice cream topped with jelly beans over here!! This is a GLORIOUS BIRTHDAY! Thirteen years and still counting!! A large dog, with three legs and a stupid disease and he's celebrating a thirteenth birthday?? DARN RIGHT!! WOW!
Love you:-)

Oh my look at that handsome boy! I have to say Sampson, you haven't changed a bit, your face still looks like that puppy! Whatever you're doing keep on doing it! Happy Birthday and may there be many many more!
And tell your mom, birthday celebrations are supposed to last all week....so that means xtra treats everyday this week!

Love it love it love it! OH my gosh what a fantastic photo essay and pawty pictures, I feel like I was there!
Samdog just got cuter and cuter in time (or rather more handsomer). His confidence, strength and determination (stubbornness!) is reflected in that handsome face of his, he is just such a cool doggie.
Hoppie birthday Samdog! We love love love you!!!!!

Happy Belated Birthday Sampson!!! So sorry I missed the actual day. Love the pictorial. That loving look stays the same in every picture. Thanks for being our Senior Hero!
Luanne & Shooter
Spirit Shooter was a Miniature Australian Shepherd who was diagnosed with a MCT and had a LF amp 1/28/13 at 13-1/2 years old.
Shooter crossed the Bridge on 8/28/13, his 7 month ampuversary and two weeks from his 14th birthday.
Sorry I'm late, but I've been on the road for 2 weeks and just back home. But if I'm late, the pawty goes on longer, right?
Happy hoppy lucky 13 to Sampson, the cantankerous-opinionated-determined birthday boy! A dog without spirit is kind of boring, and Sam's not boring. And he's doing well and is going strong, and I'm delighted for you all!
