My dad was syringe feeding Maggie the other day for me so I got a couple of pics. I know in the first one she looks unhappy, but it is because he is not serving her fast enough Its not always this messy either- but I do always use an apron. My dad had put some on a plate to see if she would eat it that way. She will sometimes, but it goes EVERYWHERE, even a bit in her mouth
Overall Maggie is doing well. Her latest set of blood work for her kidneys came back the same or a bit better than last time
She does however have a bladder infection so she started on antibiotics today. I almost said "oh good" when the vet told me this morning because Mag has been a bit slow the last couple of days, and thoughts wander....
She eats on her own sometimes, sometimes the syringe. I have learned not to force it, or stress about it. If she won't eat her food I just heat up some gruel and pump it into her. I can sometimes tell now when she won't eat, but not always. She is just under 15 lbs now (should be about 17) but we have held her steady there for three weeks now. I would like to put some weight on her but we have to be careful not to overfeed because she throws it up. We are feeding her 3 times a day now.
I get a decent view of the melanoma in her mouth when I am stuffing pills down her, now three times a day. It is an ugly thing. I am trying to judge growth, but I am letting Maggie guide me. So far it doesn't seem to bother her too much, and she is not in any pain from it.
I have finally updated her blog with the first installment of Maggie, the early years. Check it out if you feel up to pug cuteness:

Being one who fought the appetite problem, I totally sympathize with the issues. I had to stuff nearly every morsel of food during the first two months because of the chemical taste of the chemotherapy. We worked out a very good system - as long as I got it past the front of her tongue before releasing the food, she would not present it back to me. All I had to do was get it past the taste buds. However, I am sure that it would not work with Maggie - Miss Cherry's mouth did allow more room for maneuvering.
Thanks for the great photos. (I had to borrow that word from the chauffeur)

Oh, Maggie! How well you have the humans trained. Look what a production they go through to make sure you eat three times a day. I can feel the love...

Oh my dog! The pics are priceless! That's a hoot watching your dad feed her with the food all over her face! Moms would never let it get messy since we have built-in maternal mechanisms for feeding babies!
Comet - 1999 to 2011

She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
I, too, loved the great pictures! You sure do take good care of Maggie.

We're so glad to hear Maggie's doing so well - especially that she hasn't continued to lose weight. You're an awesome mom! Please give her and her sis a hug for us!
