Hi all,
Tigger's still doing fine. I guess I've been licking my wounds since Kodiak's passing back in May. We're still fostering dogs for Save Underdogs through Pet Finder, although I haven't been as keen on it lately. Kodiak was always the boss and would teach the new dogs how to behave and now more of the teaching is on Kris and I and my patience isn't what it used to be.
I went camping about a month ago and wound up with yet another foster, only this time it was an orphaned baby Southern Flying Squirrel that was given to me by the park ranger. Benji is nine weeks old now and doing wonderfully. Nothing like having to take care of something that's completely helpless to give you the kick in the butt you need.
So I guess I will try to get back in here and post more now that I'm feeling a bit more like my old self. *wave*

Great to hear from you again … I hope Codie Rae doesn't read this post!

Squirrels? Did you say Squirrel?
So much fun to raise a little baby like that, alot of work too. Glad to hear Tigger is doing well.
Hugs,
Chuy
Chuy, showing everyone that Tripawds do everything 3 times better than regular dogs!
I can't believe you can have a squirrel in a house of dogs! I am glad that Tigger is doing so well and that you are trying to reclaim life after losing Kodiak.
Debra & Emily
Debra & Emily, a five year old doberman mix, who was diagnosed with an osteosaecoma. She had a right rear leg amputation on May 19, 2009. On November 10, 2009 she earned her wings and regained her fourth leg.
Hi Bev,
It's nice to meet you! I'm sorry that you lost your baby in May... How is Tigger doing? Is he a tripawd too? I love the picture of your little flying squirrel! He/she is ADORABLE!!! Do you have a blog so I can read your story?
Jake's Mom
Jake, 10yr old golden retriever (fractured his front right leg on 9/1, bone biopsy revealed osteosarcoma on 9/10, amputation on 9/17) and his family Marguerite, Jacques and Wolfie, 5yr old german shepherd and the newest addition to the family, Nala, a 7mth old Bengal mix kittie. Jake lost his battle on 11/9/2009, almost 8 weeks after his surgery. We will never forget our sweet golden angel… http://jakesjou.....ipawds.com ….. CANCER SUCKS!
Bev, welcome back! We've missed you!! What a crazy thing to have a squirrell in your house with dogs, wow!!! How great to hear that Tigger is doing well, that's wonderful news. Show us some pics when you get a chance!

OK Bev, I just gotta know ... did you start this new Tripawds Blog for your little flying friend? If not there is some sort of squirrel conspiracy going on around here.

Ooops, sorry got side-tracked again. I'll try to answer everyone's questions.
Tigger is indeed a tripod. She was born in an animal shelter and shortly thereafter had her right front leg ripped off by some dogs in an adjoining cage. She came to us as a foster and we kept her. Kodiak was our 13-yr-old wolf hybrid that died in May from hemangiosarcoma.
Benji is a Southern flying squirrel that came into my possesion while on a camping trip. Some hikers found an orphaned baby along the trail and brought it to the ranger who in turn brought it to the Florida Trail Association group that I was hiking with thinking that someone in the group might be able to care for it. Turns out the rangers don't have the resources to raise orphaned animals and will usually walk a few feet into the woods, set the babies down and leave them to their fate. The trail members remembered me mentioning that we fostered dogs and thought, "Hey, I bet Bev can foster a squirrel!"
Turns out I can. Benji was about 5 weeks when I brought her home. She's 10 weeks old now and just learning how to glide. Benji stays in a custom built cage (made from an entertainment center) in a room all to herself. The dogs are not allowed in the room with the yummy squirrel. Her cage has two trapezes, a rope ladder, a rope "fireman" pole through a cut-out, and several rope/wood toys. We take her out several times a day for bottle feedings and exercise. She's an awesome little baby. I searched around and found a breeder and placed a deposit on another little girl that should be here in a couple of weeks so Benji will have a little "sister" to play with.
Jerry, nope, it wasn't me that started that blog, but that's not a bad idea is it? Hmm… I have my own personal blog, http://www.thee.....ogspot.com but I haven't blogged about Benji on it yet. I'm "living" over on The Squirrel Board forums. LOL. There are quite a few pics (of Benji and my other critters) on my flickr account http://www.flic...../nerispace
Wow! That felt like a lot of catching up! I'll have to make more of an effort to check the forums regularly instead of once a week.
Whoa, what a coincidence. Hopefully we'll hear from glaucomyssabrinus.

Oh goodness! I'm back. My laptop died in November and I ordered a new one from Dell. Big mistake! That one lasted about a week before it died also, so then I had to jump through hoops and sent it back and bought myself a Toshiba instead. Now I'm back in business.
Benji (the flying squirrel) has a new sister named Nibbles. One of the two of them (I'm not sure which) tossed my name in a hat over at National Flying Squirrel Association website and suddenly I became Editor for their newsletter. Gah! Maybe I should let Tigger get ahold of them...
Nah... probably not.
But anyway, I've got my bookmarks reset and I should be around more regular like and all. Oh, but I remember now what got me on this particular topic. In February the NFSA is having a conference. Does Tripawds every have conferences and if not when can we start??

No "conferences" on the radar ... but stay tuned to the Tripawd Parties topic to find out when we might be planning get-togethers, or to schedule your own in your area!

My goodness it's been a while since I've checked in!
Tigger is still going strong. We're still providing a foster home for dogs. My flying squirrel menagerie has expanded to two girls and a boy. I still work at the courthouse, but now I also have my own outdoor website. Woot! I guess that's if for the short recap. Hopefully after this weekend's adventure I'll have time to sit down and catchup.
