With all of the terrible losses that have happened recently, I guess that we should celebrate good news!
Rusty continues to amaze us with his enthusiasm for life and happiness. He will receive his 6th and final IV Chemo treatment a week from today, on his 23rd month birthday, and the oral Chemo treatment two weeks later. He continues to handle the Chemo very well, with the exception of the diarrhea which we are keeping under control with diet and medication. We don't know if Dr. Macy will perform new scans to see if the cancer has spread or wait until we see some symptoms; he will let us know after the Chemo treatments are complete. With all of the recent losses relatively soon after amputation I am getting nervous that we will make Rusty's original prognosis of 1 to 3 years, although they added the caveat that it could be much less.
These photos were taken yesterday right after he was groomed with his summer cut to help keep him cool from the Chemo. I will update his blog after his visit with Dr. Macy next week; he has been active swimming, we had our first 110 degree day yesterday.
Now that I have mastered uploading and embedding photos, I have added several photos of Rusty to his blog from before surgery, through surgery and current; so take a look if you have a chance.
Chuck & Rusty
Rusty is a Labradoodle who was diagnosed with level 3 Fibrosarcoma on January 16th, 2010 and had his left hind leg amputated on January 25th, 2010 five days before his 18 month birthday. Please see Rusty's blog @rusty.tripawds.com. He is putting up one heck of a fight against this terrible disease.
Congratulations Chuck and Rusty! I'm so happy to hear Rusty's doing well! We also see Dr. Macy (in Vegas) and Sadie had her last chemo June 11th. He was going to do chest x-rays after her 4th chemo, but originally we said we didn't want to do them. We changed our minds by the last treatment and has them done and they were negative, which eased my mind quite a bit. Anyway, Sadie's always looking for an excuse for extra treats, so I think some bologna is in order! Way to go Rusty
Sadie & Lisa
Sadie is my 9yr old Rott/Shepherd mix. Diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her right scapula 1/28/10. Our brave girl had her amputation 2/13/10 and her last chemotherapy on 6/6/10. Unfortunately, a tumor appeared in her back right leg and on 10/7/2010 Sadie's earthly journey came to an end. On 10/24/2010 we adopted Ranger, a handsome Rott/Lab mix tripawd (got hit by a car) I think Sadie sent him to us.

HOORAY! We love good, great and even mediocre news! But this is great news for sure!
Rusty now that your Pops has mastered the pictures - he needs to master the dishing out ice cream for celebrations! We scream for ice cream on ampuversaries, birthdays and any good news! And tell him to put those negative thoughts in the trash! Remember it's quality time, not quantity! Just keep wagging that adorable tail and he'll remember!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Congrats to you Rusty. Love that summer 'do'. You're looking like not a thing is bothering you. Celebration in your honor tonight. Green beans for all!

Happy 5 Month Ampuversary Rusty! You look so handsome in your pictures. So glad that you're doing so well and you're almost done with the chemo - now that's big cause for celebration! Here's to many, many more ampuversaries, celebrations, hair cuts and lots of treats!
Kami (Mackenzie's Mom)
My sweet golden Mackenzie. She became my angel on Dec 29, 2010 at the age of 8 1/2 although she was always my angel from the time we brought her home. She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in Sept 2009 and officially became a tripawd (front leg) on Nov 5, 2009. She will be forever in my heart and now she's running free with all of our other tripawd heroes. I love you Mackenzie!

Way to go Rusty!! Happy Ampuversary, and here's to many, many, many more!!
My pug Maggie's original prognosis after amputation and chemo was 6 to 9 months (she had mast cell cancer). I let her go on June 2nd, 3 years and 9 months after her amp! And I lost her to a second unrelated cancer.
Don't spend too much time worrying about prognosis (of course I did!). Rusty has his whole life in front of him, however long that is.
