Coming fast on Atlas' great heels, here we are: 16 months, post-amp Jackson! It's a gorgeous spring day here, so we had a nice hop where he rolled in grass and ate a lot of it! I swear he's trying to lactate! This is a regular habit for him and he has his favorite species and locations to nosh!
Let's see what else: we're still treating his struvite crystals in his urine. It's been maybe 3 weeks since they were found so since then we've added water to his kibble to help flush them out and more Cranimals at each meal. We've also found he LOVES frozen cranberries (I haven't tried them fresh, but I suspect he'd love those too), so he's getting all pumped up with items to re-acidify his pee. Gotta dissolve those things! I think he has the crystals b/c we go heavy on veggies, which are known to make urine more alkaline. Cancer doesn't do well in alkaline environments, by the way. So we gotta get the crystals out, but I refuse to abandon veggies.
He's blowing his coat, so much to his dislike we combed him thoroughly then furminated him. It seriously looked like we massacred a small animal in our house. SO. MUCH. FUR. That was a bad day for him; he HATES being brushed.
Apart from that, he's EXCELLENT! Like every month or every day we're still here, we love on him, but also know how lucky we are. So many special, uber-loved pups and kitties have left us. We miss them terribly. We know they're looking out for the rest of us fighting on down here!

ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12. Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ! No side effects. We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments. He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors! Our love. Our funny little guy!
Thank Katy for this wonderful update on Jackson!
Happy hoppy 16 month ampuversary Jackson.
While you say he hated being brushed and furminated, his coat just glows - must be all those fruits and veggies.
Let the celebrations begin...with cranberries of course.
Hugs

YAAAAAAAY JACKSON!! Good job! Excellent job!! You keep on keeping on Jackson!
Sixteen glorious reasons to celebrate...and your momma brishes you and you hate it, right? What was your human thinking?? DEMAND ice cream! Just one small scoop! Come on Katy.....ice creams "freezes crystals" and blasts them out of pee! Yep! Happy Hannah learned that in pharmaceutical school and she said to share that with you!
You realky, really look great in your pictures Jackson. A very handsome man!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
Go Jackson!! Woooo Hoooo! Oh boy do I know about that hair, it looks just like my Jake's. We used to fill up bags with big black hair balls!

Sending ear scratchies to you,
Joan and Lily
Our beautiful Lily was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her front leg on 12/14/11 at age 8 and had amp on 12/16/11. She completed 5 rounds of carbo. She was so brave and kicked cancer's butt daily! She lived life fully for 4 years, 3 months, and 15 days after her amp. My angel is a warrior princess. I miss her so much.
He looks excellent, Katy! What a handsome boy. Keep kickin' the big "c's" butt!
Hugs,

Woo-hoo for Jackson! Great pics; it looks like he is loving life...as he should. Happy 16!
Deb and Angel Lexie* Diagnosed at age 13. Tried radiation first; wish we had amputated upon diagnosis (even with lung mets). Joined Club Tripawd April 2014 & Lexie loved life on 3 legs! Advice: Start physical therapy as soon as your vet clears it, especially hydrotherapy if available :-) See Lexie pics here.
