Today is Skyler's one month ampuversary, and she's doing really well. She's moving around (well...actually running) in the back yard. She's still struggling with steps, but we're working on it. She has had 3 of 8 chemo treatments, and so far is tolerating it pretty well. The only side effects we've seen so far are a bit of lethargy, some panting, and increased thirst. We know that can change at any time, but are thankful for how well she's doing at this point. We also know there are no guarantees, so we just count each day we have with her as a blessing. I have a great video of her running, but I don't know how to post it on here.
Thanks for all of the great support!

The best way to share videos is to post them to YouTube first. Then, they can very easily be embedded in a Tripawds Blog post simply by pasting the video page URL on a line by itself. Here are detailed instructions for adding YouTube videos to forum posts here in the discussion forums.

Perfect attitude – live each and every day for the joy of the day. They are blessings and should be appreciated. My Dad always says that reaching such a milestone as one month is a definate reason to celebrate – PAWRTY!!! Be sure to give Skyler extra hugs, more playtime, special treats and . . . . ICE CREAM! Dad also says that I measure each pawrty by the ice cream, but there are worse things. The steps will come with time, but Dad bought a Ruff Wear harness to help me into and from the 5th wheel trailer. That way I was able to go camping. It was one of my most favorite things – rolling down the road and seeing all the National Parks. Like I said, the harness was definately a big help – especially getting up the steps for a left-foreleg amputee.
You are nearly half way though the chemotherapy Skyler and it does not sound as if it has been too bad. My only complications were a total loss of appetite – that nasty taste that the chemicals left. Things really started to improve once the chemo was complete, so you have that to look forward to.
Keep on celebrating and posting those ampuversaries. Dad always loves to get such good news!!

Yeah Skyler. You've got the hard part done. Enjoy your ampuversary. I think Spirit Cherry is right about the ice cream.

Hey Skyler, congrats! Don't worry about those steps, it took me a few months before I was comfortable with them.
Keep up the great work!

Skylar - Happy 1 Month Ampuversary! That's so pawesome! Also great to hear that you are tolerating the chemo well. That's one of our biggest worries around here. We're so happy that you're doing so well. Can't wait to see the videos - as Jerry said, it's real easy. I just posted my first one and it was no problem at all. Here's to many more ampuversaries (and btw, with ampuversaries come lots of treats so be sure to let you mom know!)
Kami (Mackenzie's Mom)
My sweet golden Mackenzie. She became my angel on Dec 29, 2010 at the age of 8 1/2 although she was always my angel from the time we brought her home. She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in Sept 2009 and officially became a tripawd (front leg) on Nov 5, 2009. She will be forever in my heart and now she's running free with all of our other tripawd heroes. I love you Mackenzie!
A big CONGRATS to you Skyler!! You can't keep a Golden Girl down!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Wow. Three chemo treatments and only one month post amputation. What a strong, strong girl!
