Hi everyone,
I would like to introduce Obie, short for Oberon (Tani is short for Titania for you Shakespeare fans). He is a 4 year old rescue who came to live with us yesterday. What I know about his background is that his original owners divorced with the husband taking the pug. He was supposedly surrendered to the rescue organization because he was being left alone all the time. His foster mom thinks he might have been hit because she said he would shy away when she reached to touch his head. I'm not sure- he doesn't seem to flinch too much with me. He is not too good with basic commands so there is some work to do there. The FM said he was crate trained, but what he has is a carrier, not a crate. It is really too small for him to use as a crate, but according to FM he spent a lot of time there when she first got him. He does seem to find some comfort in it- but already he is choosing to spend more time with me than in the crate.
Tani is ignoring him to the best of her ability. She seemed a bit disappointed when she woke up this morning and he was still here. For her though- indifference is a good sign. She has only chased him away from me once, that was yesterday, and even then was not too aggressive with him. Today they were sleeping about a two feet apart on the same rug.
Yesterday we taught him to use the dog door- I don't think he had ever seen one. He will use it now but he thinks of it as a treat dispenser! I was sitting on the back porch with both of them this afternoon, he went over and checked out the door. He went in, then came right back out and trotted over to me expectantly! He is VERY food driven. I never thought I would find a dog that eats faster than Tani - but he does. He is always hungry (pug!) and does seem to be a bit on the thin side.
I am excited on one hand to start this new chapter, but I was feeling kind of sad yesterday to be back to two pugs without Mag. I also was going to post this in her blog- but that didn't seem right tonight.
I also need help with a new tag line. For nine years it has been Karen and the pug girls (I have already said several times 'come on girls'). Karen and the pugs? Pug pack? Is two a pack? Really it is three- two and a spirit pug...
Anyway- here are some pictures of him from our first two days. The first is him in his carrier, then just standing, then sleeping on the couch. BTW- he is one of those pugs that always has his tongue sticking out- you can see it in all the pics, especially the last one.
I guess tonight I am going to cry about everything!! Because my eyes are filled with tears of joy!
I am so happy for you Karen. I love that you rescued him, too! He's adorable. You guys are going to be so happy, including Tani.
Damnit, now I need a Kleenex!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Obie is adorable. I'm so happy for you Karen. I agree with Laura, he looks like a puppy. You could always get another boy and name it King Oedipus.....Tani, Obie, and Oedi. I had a big ornate horned frog that was missing his right rear foot....his name was King Oedipus. Sorry, I just wander off sometimes.
Karen--I'm so happy for you and Tani. Obie looks like he just fits right in and feels at home with you. It must be like paradise for him, given his lonely past. Hope he and Tani keep inching closer until we get some so-so-cute snuggle pictures of them.

Oh how adorable! Such great news that you have a new addition to your family. And his tongue...just the cutest!! Before you know it, Tani will be sleeping on top of her new brother. Love the name Obie...reminds me of something out of Star Wars. Maybe you're new tag line should be called the Tripawgs .
Congratulations!
Kami (Mackenzie's Mom)
My sweet golden Mackenzie. She became my angel on Dec 29, 2010 at the age of 8 1/2 although she was always my angel from the time we brought her home. She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in Sept 2009 and officially became a tripawd (front leg) on Nov 5, 2009. She will be forever in my heart and now she's running free with all of our other tripawd heroes. I love you Mackenzie!
Karen,
We could not be happier for you as you start down this new chapter. It sounds as if Obie is fitting is just as well as anyone could hope. I can totaly relate to the ignoring that is Tani's general response. When Cherry came home, that is just the treatment that Allie gave her. She too kept asking "when is this visitor returning to her real home?" It does sound as if Tani will "accept" Obie and if our experience is any basis, in time Tani will even like having another to take care of things (like guarding the house and treats.)
I also like the "Pug Pack", but other suggestions would include "Pug Pair" or "Pug Pair Plus", with the later including that strong spirit that will forever be with all of you. We wish you nothing but the very best and to build more great memories.
Hugs to all,
Bob, Emily, Spirit Allie and Spirit Cherry
PS: That noise you are hearing from the south part of town, is Emily raving about how "hansome" this new boy looks. May help Tani accept the "New Man In The House."
Congratulations, Karen ! He is adorable. He looks right at home sleeping away on the couch.
"Pugs R Us" ? "Pair o' Pugs" ? ... just thinking out loud ....

"Going Dog" def: living every day in the moment
"It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog who comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are."

Yippppeeeee!!!! He's a fine looking dawg. Is he tall for a pug or is that my imagination?
We're so happy for you, and so thrilled that another dog found a furever home. No dog could ask for more than to be part of your pack.
