I know that we share this date with many of our tripawd friends and want to send a shout out to them all, especially Jd's mom and chloe's mom.  We joined here within a month of each other.

It is hard to celebrate this time though because I am so sad about Mackenzie.  So, I think instead of ice cream (and because of the snow and wind and possible icy rain here..) Sammy and I are going to watch a doggy love story.  I am thinking something funny and touching and we will light a candle today for Mackenzie, as well as to celebrate the bond that Sammy and I and all of us share with our furry family. The candle was thoughtfully provided by Jd's mom, thank you, it smells wonderful!

(Plus, Sammy is on a diet, so no extras… well, that goes for me too, same diet!)

Any idea's for the movie?  Beethoven?  Old yeller?  Bengi ?

I couldn't begin to say how special Sammy is to us.  Living and laughing with and loving this wonderful boy is priceless.

Elizabeth and Sammy. Happy happy 4 month ampuversary!  That is wonderful news! Cooper and the family will indeed celebrate today in Sammy's honor! You keep plugging away Sammy! Cooper and I are cheering you on! You look so much like my Cooper we cant help but have a special place in our heart for you! Lets keep those ampuversaries rolling!

I love the idea you have about lighting a candle for Mackenzie today, and I believe I will follow suit.. it has been a hard and sad holiday time for many of our group. I hope you dont mind if I extend the candle burning ceremony to all those that have lost furkids in the recent days as well. Such as Konakai, Indi, Ruby and all the others that have crossed the bridge.

As far as the movie... oh there are so many good dog movies to choose from but so many are sad! whatever movie you choose - have a great day!

Way to go, another one slaps that crap in the face!!!! Not sure where your at, we were suppose to get freezing rain this morning here in northern Ohio, but got rain, no complaints mind you. Ditto on the waist line, but Old Yeller?????, I cried when I was nine at that one!!!! Haven't seen Benji, so I'd go with Beethoven or maybe the one with three dogs that go across country to find their family, I think it is called Homeward Bound, maybe Turner and Hooch, although that ending is double sided. Big Paws up on 4 months, Spirit Gus and Dan

My buddy Gus had a left front amputation on April 7, 2010 and lived a great life until July 26,2010

Happy Ampuversary, Sammy!  You rock!

We echo your feelings - yesterday was a day of mixed emotions as we celebrated Holly's ampuversary and were saddened by news of Mackenzie, as well as news of all of our recent losses.  I like the idea of lighting a candle for all of our angels - we try to remember to do that on each of Holly's ampuversaries.  Yesterday's candles helped somehow.

Today we'll celebrate with some extra treats in Sammy's honor.  And watching a dog movie is a pawsome idea!  We're having rain here today - and I remember 1 year ago today when we brought Holly home from the vet we sat and watched movies for 3 days straight (and I knitted lots of mittens).  Have a great day!

Hugs,

Holly, Zuzu and Susan

Holly joined the world of tripawds on 12/29/2009. She has a big little sister, Zuzu, who idolizes Holly and tries to make all of her toys into tripawds in Holly's honor. And she's enjoying life one hop at a time!

Yes it would seem hard to celebrate at this time but that's exactly what Mackenzie and her mom would want us to do. Who could help but smile when thinking of Kami and Mackenzie playing on the beach. It warms my heart.

I think 4 months is absolutely fantastic! A celebration is in order for our brave hero Sammy. Fortis' appetite hasn't been all that good lately but he loves yams. So I'm thinking a sweet potato pie is in order to celebrate Sammy's 4 month Ampuversary. You're a star Sammy superstarsuperstarsuperstarsuperstar Keep up the great work my friend.

I already recommended "The Legend of Boggy Creek" to you and I think without much approval if I remember big-grin

So today I'm recommending

Happy Ampuversary Sammy

Coops dad, you are right.  I was thinking of Indi yesterday, and all of our recent losses.  Cherry's dad's post made me fairly melancholy this morning.  A candle for all of our fallen heroes, our loved ones.

I want a movie to cry this out to.  A movie that I can hold Sammy tight and blubber and wipe snot on his pretty fur.  I have this pain inside that simple tears aren't erasing.  I want to cry for Mackenzie, for Indi, for Ruby, for JD, and for the tripawd in the shelter in Cal. that only has until the 6th of Janurary.  There have been SO many good dogs leaving us lately.

I want to cry because I still have Sammy and I am so scared of the day when I won't be able to get comfort from him when I watch movies that make me cry.  I want to do this because I need to release this pain a little.

Dan, I like it.  I am hoping against all odds to slap the crap out of Sammys cancer for good.  Thanks for the funny visual 🙂

Holly, Zuzu, and Susan, watch a movie with us.  I love it, we will make it a doggie movie day and celebrate with our friends like you around the country 🙂

Aw Brett, still pushing the movie huh?  You know I am going to have to get that on dvd and hunker down for a fright fest one of these nights.  I am sure based on the trailers I have seen of it I will have to pack up and move to a non monster having area!

I have never seen Hachi.   I thought I was the expert on all dog related movies.  I am embarrassed enough to admit I have even seen Beverly hills chihuahua.  Is it a crying kind of movie?  Oh, I guess it doesn't matter, I will add it to the list!  Thanks for the suggestion and the 4 stars big-grin

Hachi is a wonderful movie Elizabeth. It is also based on a true story and hey, Richard Gere stars in it. What more could you want big-grin And yes I feel sure it will make you cry buckets.

Fortisdad is right Elizabeth, if you want a movie to cry your eyes out to, Hachi is the one for you! But it is a wonderful movie. I believe I have cried MAYBE 3 times in my 51 years over a movie and this was one of them. Thanks for recommending it Fortisdad, I couldnt remember the name of it.

Congrats to Sammy! May you have many, many more ampuversaries to celebrate.

I love the idea of lighting a candle in memory of those recently lost. I will light another candle for those lost this year, and in previous years. They will all live in our hearts always! And I know Spirit Skyler is having a great time with the new arrivals at the bridge.

I hadn't heard of the movie Hachi, so I'll have to rent that some day. I love watching movies that make me boo-hoo.

Old Yeller!? Thought you wanted something uplifting! Hopefully you can find a My Dog Tulip at a local video rental. Or, check Amazon's recommendations for Dog Love Stories.

Elizabeth and Sammy,

You've been on my mind to extend my wholehearted congratulations to your 4 month ampuversary!! Whoo hoo!!  I'm so so happy for you and we definitely plan to celebrate in your honor.  I know that's what Mackenzie would want and she's probably right there beside Sammy egging him on to beg for more treats so watch out!  I'm so touched by alll of your posts here about Mackenzie and our other recent tripawd heroes who are now in heaven - Angel Tai, Spirit Skylar, Kona Kai, Indi, Ruby.....I just know they're all together having so much fun.    I think that's a wonderful idea to light a candle in all of their honor and I will join you.   It's so clear how so very thoughtful all of you are during this time of sorrow.  But we also have to celebrate our wonderful tripawd heros who are still here with us.  So here's to you Smiling Sammy - may you have many, many more ampuversaries to celebrate and we will definitely be there right with you celebrating too!

Lots of golden hugs to you. superstarsuperstarsuperstar

Kami, Angel Mackenzie and Kobe

My sweet golden Mackenzie.  She became my angel on Dec 29, 2010 at the age of 8 1/2  although she was always my angel from the time we brought her home.  She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in Sept 2009 and officially became a tripawd (front leg) on Nov 5, 2009.  She will be forever in my heart and now she's running free with all of our other tripawd heroes.  I love you Mackenzie!

Aw, that makes me want to cry (again smile).  I have a 3 wick candle that I lit yesterday for everyone, Sammy included.  I never did get the chance to get the movie the only listing for Cashi was in spanish! So for you and everyone else who is missing their babies today I will hug Sammy and celebrate that we still have some of our hero's here. To all of our friends that surround us in spirit and wait for us at rainbow bridge, we will fight on.

Many hugs Kami,

Elizabeth and Smiling Sammy

Happy ampuversary again, Sammy.

Hachi is a beautiful movie - I saw it earlier this year. Have the tissues handy when you get around to watching it, Elizabeth and Sammy; although it will be a guaranteed snot-fest, there's something so cathartic about a really good cry. This movie did it for me. Thumb's up on the pick, Brett.
