Today is Rusty’s 13 month Ampuversary! It has been two months since Dr. Macy stopped the Chemotherapy and he seems to be doing well. He had an episode of not eating and the worst vomiting (retching) that he has ever had a couple of weeks ago; his regular vet examined him and did extensive blood work and everything was normal. Dr. Macy reviewed the results, we are on a three month follow-up with him, and said that he probably has a very sensitive stomach from all of the chemo and Rusty will have these episodes from time to time.
This is the busy time of the year in the desert with a lot of “snow birds” arriving; we have had a lot of friends stopping by for a visit
which pleases Rusty as he can show off his social manners. The night time temps are still too cool for heating the pool; we are hoping that we can begin using it in March. Rusty has not shown any interest in the pool this winter, which is good! With all of the visitors, I have not spent any time on the Tripawds site; that will change in March.
We are still doing our twice daily walks around the lake and long rides in the golf cart, which Rusty enjoys more than ever. His energy levels are dropping, especially by the end of the day and he is sleeping a lot more than previously. We have been romping for 15 minutes or so each evening since he was a puppy, and now he shows very little interest. We don’t know if this is from going off the chemo, normal aging (he is now 2 ½) or the cancer is somewhere in his body and is not showing up in the blood work. His appetite has returned to his pre-chemodays and no problems with any diarrhea! We are keeping a very close eye on him and I am checking all areas of his body during our daily massages. Rusty will see Dr. Macy again on March 4th.
One of Rusty’s buddies from the lake was diagnosed with a very large Sarcoma on one of his kidneys.
They had attended the presentation by Dr.’s Huber & Macy at the pet club and Cody is now under their care.
The prognosis is not very favorable.
Chuck & Rusty
Rusty is a Labradoodle who was diagnosed with level 3 Fibrosarcoma on January 16th, 2010 and had his left hind leg amputated on January 25th, 2010 five days before his 18 month birthday. Please see Rusty's blog @rusty.tripawds.com. He is putting up one heck of a fight against this terrible disease.
Happy ampuversary, Rusty. Thirteen-months. Awesome. Sorry to hear Rusty's had some tummy issues. And I know it's hard not to worry about changes in behaviour, even subtle ones like lack of interest in activities, appetite. Catie's now heading to her fourteen-month ampuversary and she has from time-to-time what I call "off" days where she's slower than others. I have to admit to a sudden increase in heart beats on days like that.
And sorry about the diagnosis of cancer and the poor prognosis of one of Rusty's buddies.
For sure, though, Catie and RIley will have an extra treat in celebration of yet another milestone in Rusty's journey.

My sweet golden Mackenzie. She became my angel on Dec 29, 2010 at the age of 8 1/2 although she was always my angel from the time we brought her home. She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in Sept 2009 and officially became a tripawd (front leg) on Nov 5, 2009. She will be forever in my heart and now she's running free with all of our other tripawd heroes. I love you Mackenzie!
