Six months ago today Rocky became a tripawd. It is amazing how fast the time has passed, it seems so fresh in my mind how scared I was with the decision I had just made. It was a life or death decision that only I could make, and the weight on my shoulders seemed unbearable.

From the beginning, I knew that the amputation might buy him 6 more months with us if we were lucky. It seemed like such a short time and at first it was on my mind every day. I would look at him and begin to cry just knowing that my sweet boy was dying. But as time went on, I began to understand that Rocky didn't care. All he wanted was love, walks, food, car rides and ear scratchings - just like before.

Now, 6 months down the road, he is just as happy as ever. Today he celebrated by chewing on a big ol' knuckle bone and visiting with his doggy mommy and doggy sister. They had fun running and playing in the snow and Rocky attempted to hump his sister every chance he got.

Isn't that what it's all about? Living for the moment, embracing life. None of us knows how long we have on this earth, so we might as well make the best of the time we have together.

EXACTLY!  Life is a gift!  We are all going to die eventually!  Our weird would be if we sat around worrying about it!?

Leg or no leg, cancer or no cancer, our pooches just want our companionship!

Bravo Rocky!  You are one handsome dude!  And a great dog for putting mom out of her worry.  6 months is fantastic!

Michelle and Rocky,

As soon as I saw the posting, I had to "quote" the wonderful statement. Even when I realized that "Admin" had already "quoted", it is definately worth another repeat.

Your wonderful news is like a symphony to me personally and I am sure to nearly all of this community. Six months is definitely a reason for celebrating with a PAWRTY and that is just what we will be doing vicariously with you. I remember your initial postings very well and told you then that I would always have a very special place for anyone named Michelle. Not only can we celebrate Rocky's six month ampuversary, his great celebration, but your overall attitude to your life together. This truly is a model for any and all beginning this journey and has been echoed many times - first by Jim, Rene, and Jerry and then by many of us who have been blessed with this extra time.

Never loose you enthuasim for enjoying each and every day. Always celebrate every milestone. Never underestimate the significance of any milestone. Your posting has definately given us a lift and we really needed it.

Looking forward to hearing more of your adventures and celebrations.

Big shout out to Rocky for such a milestone.  Keep hoppin on Rocky!!!!

You have summed the feeling up so well Michelle, I too discovered over time that Koda didn't care and he just wanted to be with us and play and have loads of time together and I am thankful in a way that I don't take him at all for granted.  Even if I am in a hurry I make sure I fit in giving him a kiss and hug and tell him how much I love him and a massage at night.
