I officially have two dogs with only 6 working legs right now. Our little monkeybutt suffered his first injury – a torn toenail! (was expecting he'd puncture an intestine first with all of his eating stuff he shouldn't!)
Quick get the camera!
Mommy and daddy's bright idea that lasted 2 minutes!
I'm not sure how he did it but it's cracked smack dab in the middle of the toenail. I think we'll take him to vet tonight and get it clipped off. Oh, it looks so painful. And for the first time, you could really tell he was hurting. He played tough guy at first until later last night and he let me hold him like a baby while he slept for the first time ever!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Silly Monkeybutt! He's just jealous of all the attention Comet gets around here. We hope he heals quickly.

Yikes! Looks painful but I bet Comet doesn't think that a broken toe nail counts for much. Just goes to show that it is hard for us anytime any of our dogs are hurt. They don't have to be tripawds.
Debra
Debra & Emily, a five year old doberman mix, who was diagnosed with an osteosaecoma. She had a right rear leg amputation on May 19, 2009. On November 10, 2009 she earned her wings and regained her fourth leg.
That happened to me once too, it hurt sooooo bad!
Hope that little Monkey Butt feels better soon.
Nice improvised cast, by the way!

Feel better soon, Monkeybutt!
Shanna & Spirit Trouble ~ Trouble gained her wings 3/16/2011, a 27 1/2 month cancer survivor, tail wagging. RIP sweetheart, you are my heart and soul. Run free at Rainbow Bridge.

Thank you guys! Yep, Comet said, "Welcome to my world, limpie!"
He's a little toughie but was such a little darling. It's the first time he's let me baby him and he really enjoyed it. Most of the time he's just a pest and only loves on his play daddy, not mommy.
Took him to vet and he's having his first "procedure" tomorrow to remove it. And to honest, I'm a little nervous about the little tot being sedated.
Really? Almost $400 for a toe nail to get fixed???? CHA-CHING! Thank goodness it wasn't Comet, cuz I'm sure it would have been double the charges since the vet's office knows when it pertains to Comet, money seems to be no object!
But with my luck if we didn't get it removed, then he'd get an infection and lose his leg or something!

Oh Monkey Butt. You sure know how to kiss up to Mommy so she's not too mad about a $400 vet bill for your broken nail! Something tells me though that you'll be just fine with the happy drugs. Enjoy!
Good luck tomorrow!

Sooo, am I the only only one that thinks that Monkeybutt doesn't look like either of those things? I bet Comet had a vote in naming Monkeybutt! By the way, I live in Pahrump (not too far away) Who's your vet?
Sadie is my 9yr old Rott/Shepherd mix. Diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her right scapula 1/28/10. Our brave girl had her amputation 2/13/10 and her last chemotherapy on 6/6/10. Unfortunately, a tumor appeared in her back right leg and on 10/7/2010 Sadie's earthly journey came to an end. On 10/24/2010 we adopted Ranger, a handsome Rott/Lab mix tripawd (got hit by a car) I think Sadie sent him to us.

Welcome Sadie33! My physical therapists for Comet lives in Parump. She works at the Vet. Referral Center on Trop/Buffalo. Dr. Hoeffle's facility. I feel stupid because I don't know her name and now I'm embarrassed to ask!
I've been going VCA for years so it's hard to stop now. I honestly feel like I can't get out of there without spending a $1000! While there last night I decided to run a blood test on Comet (I'll post later about that). The one blood tests was $285! So, I'm at around $700.
I still get a bit upset that I had a $1500 bill on Rugby when he died and all that was done was blood, xrays and a heart monitor. He was there for about an hour and .... he died! Okay, so $500 of that was autopsy and cremation but $1000 seems steep. I bet if I looked at the bill I paid for the IV that they tried to put in but he died during the process. Luckily we had insurance with a cancer rider.
Storm - guess what, you can buy shares! They are publically traded under the symbol "woof' on the NYSE.
My common sense side says, the treatment is obscene and extreme. My mommy side says, I don't want to be neglectful!
Rocket goes in at 11am today. I hate having to keep food away especially until 11am! It messed up everybody's morning!

OK...I stand corrected

That is too funny about the shares. We too head to the vet for any little niggle just incase, better to be safe than sorry. I often joke to the girls at our vet surgery that I should at least own the front door by now. You just pay it and never look back. Our last cat died of congenital heart failure and that was a $1000 vet bill and he died 2 days later. That was at the Pet ER specialists though. The pet insurance is a good idea and I think for the next pet I will look into that and look for one that covers cancer also like you mentioned as a lot of Koda's Xrays etc would not be covered as it is a pre existing condition now.
I bet Comet is enjoying watching Rocket hobble around on 3 legs!!! Hope he is feeling better soon.
