Incredibly today marks one year since I let Maggie the Tri-Pug go.
I intentionally posted this in Shout Outs and not Coping with Loss. I still miss my Spud, but I spend more time now smiling and laughing about her than mourning her. Our journey together, and this last year of injury and illness in family and friends have taught me to enjoy and treasure each day- what ever it might bring.
While today seemed like it would be especially hard I have reason to celebrate. Last year about two weeks after letting Maggie go my best friend was diagnosed with brain cancer. Today I am happy to attend her retirement lunch (she turned 60 while on leave). My friend is healthy and almost back to normal (still waiting for the drivers license).
I also added a longish post to Maggie's blog this morning- just some of my memories of what made her such a special girl.
Today I send a Shout Out to my Spirit Tri-Pug. Thanks for the memories, the joy, and especially the life lessons!

You are missed dearly but you continue inspiring Tripawds members new and old every single day.And your Mom? Wow. She is amazing with all of the help, hope and support she gives to this community. Thank you for sending her to us and inspiring her to stay. She is truly a gift.
Your spirit will always be strong in this community. We love you.
P.S. Great news about your Mom's friend! She is a rock star, just like you.

Shout out to Miss Maggie. We all miss you a year later, and are thankful for all the things you taught us. Take care of all our angel heros at the Bridge. Oh, and keep a lookout over Tani. She told me she still misses you.
Shanna & Spirit Trouble ~ Trouble gained her wings 3/16/2011, a 27 1/2 month cancer survivor, tail wagging. RIP sweetheart, you are my heart and soul. Run free at Rainbow Bridge.
The November Five - Spirits Max, Cherry, Tika, Trouble & Nova. 11/2008 - 3/2013 An era ends as Queen Nova crossed the Bridge.
Maggie will always be one of our heros! She certainly continues to inspire us - and we know she's smiling down on us! I think of her whenever I see a pug - and smile remembering her stories.
Hugs,
Holly, Zuzu and Susan
Holly joined the world of tripawds on 12/29/2009. She has a big little sister, Zuzu, who idolizes Holly and tries to make all of her toys into tripawds in Holly's honor. And she's enjoying life one hop at a time!

I'll always be grateful that Max had a chance to meet Maggie on his first and last trip to Mill Valley in January last year (although Maggie, for her part, was thoroughly unimpressed with him). She was a great dog and an inspiration to the board, surviving for such a long time as she did. Thoughts of our own departed boy now bring us more happiness than sadness, and I'm glad you've reached that point as well.
I joined the "club" a little too late to meet Maggie, but her everyone says the nicest things about her. I feel a special connection to her because we're both Mast Cell cancer survivors and because I'm part pug, too. Maggie's impact is still being felt every day, and her spirit will continue to comfort those of us out here searching for answers.
Thanks so much Maggie. You are my hero!

Karen, thank you for posting this! Even now, Maggie inspires new tripawds thanks to you being here to continue sharing her story and offering advice and support to everyone here. Your posts right before and shortly after letting Maggie go were truly an inspiration to me as I contemplated Sadie's quality of life, and ultimately our own difficult decision to let her go in October. I agree that although I still miss Sadie, I can look back at the happy memories and smile more and cry less.

P.S. Hey monkeybutt-bunny, what's it like to have multiple personality disorder? Do you say things like "I know I'm not crazy because the voices in my head tell me so?" Don't blame it on someone hijacking your avatar, I don't buy it
Sadie is my 9yr old Rott/Shepherd mix. Diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her right scapula 1/28/10. Our brave girl had her amputation 2/13/10 and her last chemotherapy on 6/6/10. Unfortunately, a tumor appeared in her back right leg and on 10/7/2010 Sadie's earthly journey came to an end. On 10/24/2010 we adopted Ranger, a handsome Rott/Lab mix tripawd (got hit by a car) I think Sadie sent him to us.
