This weekend marks Mackenzie's 8 Month Ampuversary and Kobe's 2 year birthday – yea!! And it's the 4th of July! So we are celebrating!!
It amazes me when I look back to when our journey first started – it was 10 months ago when Mackenzie was diagnosed with osteosarcoma (Sept) and 8 months ago when she had her surgery. We've come so far and even though we've had this recent set back (discovering 4 nodules on her lungs and a lump on her side that's a metatasis from the osteosarcoma) it hasn't stopped Mackenzie or us from enjoying each day together. To look at her, you would never know….. she's just so full of life and so energetic. As soon as she sees me putting on my bathing suit, for example, she starts to whine and bark and find her ball because she knows it's pool time. My husband and I were just remarking how much more energetic she seems since we got the bad news. It's very strange I know…but I love it!
I was hoping to attach a couple of pictures of my puppies pool side (Comet -help!) so instead I'll direct you over to my blog where I just posted a new video called the ABC's of Swimming…Mackenzie – a great tripawd swimmer and Kobe – a not so great quadpawd swimmer… you'll catch my drift soon enough http://www.mack.....ipawds.com
I hope everyone has a wonderful 4th of July!
Kami
Comet to the rescue! Here you go!
My sweet golden Mackenzie. She became my angel on Dec 29, 2010 at the age of 8 1/2 although she was always my angel from the time we brought her home. She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in Sept 2009 and officially became a tripawd (front leg) on Nov 5, 2009. She will be forever in my heart and now she's running free with all of our other tripawd heroes. I love you Mackenzie!
Hoppy Hoppy 8 month ampuversary Mackenzie and Happy Birthday Kobe !!! This really does call for a great big celebration with ice cream, special treats, lots of extra hugs and even fireworks!!! I hope you enjoy swimming today and keep on just loving life.
Tasha is going to join in your celebration with a jerky treat in your honor.

Kami, Mackenzie, and Kobe,
Wow! I remember when they had a holiday (November 11) for Nova's one year ampuversary, but to get fireworks for the 8 month ampuversary and 2 year birthday is really wonderful. We all enjoyed the pool pictures but it looks as if Kobe could use the float to help gain confidence. Dad says that his first two Standard Poodles also were excellent swimmers, but I never really did get into the swing of it. So back to the celebration - I guess that we will have to make some adjustments because of national holiday celebration. More hugs, more playtime, special treats (from the grill), and homemade ICE CREAM. Sounds like we have everything well in hand.
Dad says to tell you that the noise from Northern California is all the NorCal gang celebrating. Such milestones are definately worth celebrating. We will be looking forward many more celebrations and entertaining videos.
Spirit Cherry
I hope you have a very, very Hoppy Ampuversary, Mackenzie!! I look forward to reading about many, many, MANY more to come!! I wish Harley was still here to celebrate Ampuversaries with you, but I know he is celebrating in spirit! We are so proud of you, Mackenzie!!
Amputation on 11/10/09, due to Histiocytic Sarcoma in left elbow. Angel Harley earned his wings on 06/24/10.
Happy hoppy 8 month ampuversary Mackenzie. Sounds like you had a great deal planned with swimming etc. Do you get to go in the pool with your Mum?
Tai is having an extra chicken breast jerky in your honor!! Here's to many many many many more celebrations.
Laura and Tai
Tai – 9 yr old lab. Diagnosed Osteosarcoma Dec 18/09. Front right leg amputated Dec 21/09. Started chemo Jan 7/10. Lung mets discovered Sept 16/10. Valiant to the end on Oct 26/10 when cancer reappeared in a leg and we made the decision to set her free. Forever in my heart where not even cancer can take her from me.
Happy 8 month ampuversary Mackenzie ... and Happy Birthday Kobe!! Hope you had a wonderful celebration!
Loved the swimming video... Never saw a dog have so much trouble swimming as Kobe did ... so funny! Mackenzie... you gotta teach Kobe how to do it!!
Angel Jake and Wolfie's Mom
Jake, 10yr old golden retriever (fractured his front right leg on 9/1, bone biopsy revealed osteosarcoma on 9/10, amputation on 9/17) and his family Marguerite, Jacques and Wolfie, 5yr old german shepherd and the newest addition to the family, Nala, a 7mth old Bengal mix kittie. Jake lost his battle on 11/9/2009, almost 8 weeks after his surgery. We will never forget our sweet golden angel… http://jakesjou.....ipawds.com ….. CANCER SUCKS!
Mackenzie, I swear you have gills. What a swimmer you are, and what a gloriously sunny day.
Congratulations on your ampuversary (and hoppy birthday to you Kobe!). We're so proud you're not letting that last doctor visit get you down. You are a pawfect example of "living with cancer," and you make us very, very proud! Keep it up!

Happy Hoppy Day ! 8 months! Lucky 8! (or is it Magic 8?) Your super pawsome Mackenzie!
Kobe will be a pro since he's got the bestest teacher ever! (Okay, maybe not – he's not the best student!) But we'll overlook it since he's ……………………..

Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Started watching the video and forgot we were celebrating. I laughed so hard at Kobe. I just have to ask, did he ever learn to be graceful?
Hope you guys had a wonderful amupuversary/birthday celebration.
Shanna & Spirit Trouble ~ Trouble gained her wings 3/16/2011, a 27 1/2 month cancer survivor, tail wagging. RIP sweetheart, you are my heart and soul. Run free at Rainbow Bridge.

Hoppy ampuversary to Makenzie, 8 months seems like a lifetime right now, I think we will hit 3 this week and it feels like 6!!!! so I envy you, well have an extra slice of luchmeat to celebrate, Paws up, Gus and Dan
My buddy Gus had a left front amputation on April 7, 2010 and lived a great life until July 26,2010
A very hoppy ampuversary and birthday to Mackenzie and Kobe!!!!! I LOVE the video. I have watched it 3 times so far and am going in for a fourth ; ) My favorite part is the end watching Kobe sitting on Mackenzie's face. What a tolerant and patient teacher Mackenzie is!
Mackenzie gets the 4th of July "Bark Spitz" award....
Our angel "Etta" amputation on 4-15-10 lost her front limb. initially dx'd with neurofibrosarcoma. However, after surgery they discovered histiocytic sarcoma a very aggressive cancer. After two full rounds of chemo our special angel lost her battle on 6-21-10. the sweetest and most gentle soul. Our lives are forever blessed for having known her...
What a great video. I loved it! Thank you so much for sharing it. Mackenzie is so graceful and beautiful in the water but that Kobe is a terrestrial being for sure.
I had a black lab (a mix really) named Ghetto that never learned to swim. He looked just like Kobe when trying except Ghetto would actually go under!!! Not good....and let me tell you those paws will do a number on your chest when your trying to help them.
Happy Hoppy Ampuversary Mackenzie! Happy birthday Mr. Kobe
