Just an update for those of you who have been so supportive. Ajax's amputation was July 19, 2010. The vets did not think the cancer had spread or would spread, it was a chondrosarcoma (soft tissue tumor). They recommended xrays in 2 mos after surgery, 6 mos after surgery and then every 6 mos. We just did our 1 year xray and all is well - it seems that the amputation in this case really did "cure" the cancer (or more accurately, get rid of all of it). I know others on this site are not so lucky, but thought I would share the good news for encouragement.
That's PAWSOME, Ajax! You are a lucky dog!

Pawsome news! Burgers and ice cream all around!
Jackie, Abby's mom
Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!
we'll definitely celebrate 'ajax day' here in ET. cheese and ice cream for everybody!!! we're so happy for you all - keep up the great work, and don't start slacking on those medicinal naps!
charon & gayle
Life is good, so very, very good!!! Gayle enjoyed each and every moment of each and every wonderful day (naps included). She left this world December 12, 2011 – off on a new adventure.

Woohoo, Ajax! So glad to hear about your big ole milestone. It is true, some are not so lucky and I know the longer Trouble made it the harder it was to post her ampuversary monthly. But it is encouragement for those coming along behind you, and is important to share those positive updates.
Shanna & Spirit Trouble ~ Trouble gained her wings 3/16/2011, a 27 1/2 month cancer survivor, tail wagging. RIP sweetheart, you are my heart and soul. Run free at Rainbow Bridge.

Having just celebrated Rusty's 18th month ampuversary, we remember how important one year is! We hope that he has many more!
Chuck & Rusty
Rusty is a Labradoodle who was diagnosed with level 3 Fibrosarcoma on January 16th, 2010 and had his left hind leg amputated on January 25th, 2010 five days before his 18 month birthday. Please see Rusty's blog @rusty.tripawds.com. He is putting up one heck of a fight against this terrible disease.
