She's doing so well. Really the only thing I am nervous about is her going down the stairs (she's a front leg amp). We put the harness on her and help her out and she's fine.
So grateful to everyone here for the advice and help. It was a nervewracking decision to go forward with the amputation, but I am so glad we did. She's happy and pain-free, as far as we can tell, and her recovery was a matter of a couple of weeks. We are very grateful for this time with her.
Congratulations! So glad to hear that the recovery has gone well. Enjoy your beautiful girl and treasure every day with her.
Karen and Spirit Magnum
Magnum: 30th May 2002 to 5th May 2012. Lost her back left leg to osteosarcoma on 5th Sep 2011. Lung mets found on 20th Mar 2012 but it was bone mets in the hip that ended her brave battle. Magnum's motto - "Dream as if you'll live for ever, live as if you'll die today" (James Dean). Loyal, loving, courageous and spirited to the end. Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Hoppy Ampuversary Loa! It's so great that you are celebrating your recovery, thanks for being here to share it with us and inspire pawrents and pups everywhere.
Don't worry too much about the stairs, you'll find your bearings soon. If you have carpeted stairs you should be OK. One of the tricks I learned when going down stairs was to lean against the wall for balance as I was going down. Once I figured that out my Momma didn't have to hold my harness unless I was on slippery uncarpted steps. You'll sure surprise your folks if you try that trick! It works great.
