i received this notice from the Morris Animal Foundation - so many of you generously donated when gayle and i walked in the first ever knoxville k9 cancer walk.  gayle had a soft tissue sarcoma, maybe your donations will help prevent another pup from this diagnosis.  she also had five rounds of chemo - maybe your donations will help the next pup have an easier time with their chemo.  thank you all for helping us kick cancer's butt!!!

MORRIS ANIMAL FOUNDATION

CANINE CANCER CAMPAIGN

Our K9 Cancer Walk program continues to gain momentum—and we’re thrilled that dog lovers throughout the country are coming together to create a healthier tomorrow for dogs. Since our program launched in 2009, more than 5,000 people and more than 2,500 dogs have participated in one of the walks throughout the country and have helped us raise more than $428,000 for dog health studies. The Morris Animal Foundation K9 Cancer Walk in Knoxville helped raise our goal by raising more than $48,000!

We’d like to share more about how donations raised through walk participation are being used to help dogs enjoy longer, healthier lives.

Recent Cancer Successes

Studies completed in 2010 yielded a number of promising results, particularly in the areas of treatment and genetics. Our funding helped scientists
Test a drug that may help fight soft-tissue tumors in dogs
Evaluate a new way to administer chemotherapy that improves treatment success and decreases side effects
Compile new data that may lead to improved drug therapies for canine lymphoma
Discover reasons for chemotherapy resistance in canine tumors

New Cutting-Edge Research

Morris Animal Foundation is currently funding more than 25 canine cancer studies that are looking at prevention and treatment of numerous types of canine cancer. Click on the links below to read full descriptions of just a few of our current cancer studies.
Understanding how bone cancer spreads
Studying chemoresistant cancer cells
Evaluating drugs to treat hemangiosarcoma
MADGiC: Making Advanced Discoveries in Golden Cancers

We simply could not fund this critical work without your participation in Morris Animal Foundation’s K9 Cancer Walk, and we appreciate your support.

Thank You Knoxville: From a Dog!

Knoxville broke a record with more than 500 dogs in attendance. On behalf of dogs everywhere, the event's "Bow Wow Mayor," Evie, would like to say thank you. Watch the personalized video from Evie the dog here.

Also, you don’t have to wait until next year’s walk to keep fighting cancer. You can share your story and keep raising funds for cancer research by setting up a Create a Cause personal fundraising page on Morris Animal Foundation’s website. It just takes a few minutes. To learn about the studies we are funding to help animals worldwide, visit http://www.Morr.....dation.org.

Thank you for your support of the Morris Animal Foundation K9 Cancer Walk.

 Sincerely,

Kate O’Brien

Life is good, so very, very good!!! Gayle enjoyed each and every moment of each and every wonderful day (naps included).  She left this world December 12, 2011 – off on a new adventure.

Thanks Charon! And that is exactly why we love MAF. Their track record showing exactly what they do with their funds says it all!

Thanks for walking in Knoxville and helping this great cause! 🙂
