Hello to my dear Tripawd family.
On May 20th our amazing golden boy reached an incredible milestone: 2 years from surgery. Since it was a Friday, a work day, we weren't able to celebrate adequately, so we made up for that today. A beautiful, sunny and unbelievably warm day here in Rio (this is Fall, in the southern hemisphere), perfect for two things Johnnie loves most: a dip in the pool and a nice barbecue.
Every now and then there are bumps in the road, as expected, but we have managed to get around. We are all so grateful to have him here with us, living his happy doggie life on three legs, even though we know it hasn't been easy for him. He sure earned these wonderful spareribs daddy cooked! (he ate two, the human family ate the rest).
Many, many thanks to all for all the support we have always had from this wonderful community. Now we are looking forward to celebrating Johnnie's 8th birthday in June, and are crossing fingers that he will be in good health to be the "dog of honor" in his human sister's wedding in September. One step at a time, one day at a time.
Many hugs and kisses
Daniela & Johnnie ( and Pepa too - she managed to sneak into one photo )
Our awesome Golden Boy was diagnosed for OSA in April 2014 in the proximal humerus, front-leg amp on 05/20/2014. Finished chemo (Carbo6) on 07/10/2014. Ongoing treatment: acupuncture + K-9 Immunity Plus ( 3chews) and home-cooked no-grain diet. Stopped Apocaps because of liver issues. Liver issues: controlling altered enzymes with SAM-e and Milk Thistle. October 17: started having seizures. Taking fenobarbital for seizures. April 18: started prednisone.
Congratulations, Johnnie! You are a star! And so very Golden waiting patiently for the word that you can have those ribs. We look forward to many more celebrations with you.
Kathi and the Tripawd April Angel...and the Labradork
Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!
UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!

Shelby Lynne; Jack Russell/Shiba Inu mix. Proud member of the April Angels of 2014.
October 15, 2000 to April 8, 2014
Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
Happy two year ampuversary!!
Sending hugs,
Joan and her angel, Lily
Our beautiful Lily was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her front leg on 12/14/11 at age 8 and had amp on 12/16/11. She completed 5 rounds of carbo. She was so brave and kicked cancer's butt daily! She lived life fully for 4 years, 3 months, and 15 days after her amp. My angel is a warrior princess. I miss her so much.
Thanks for all the messages. Yes, Johnnie used K-9 Immunity through chemo, 3 chews in the morning and 3 chews in the afternoon, except on the first three days after chemo. We also used Cerenia for the first three days after chemo, to avoid nausea.
Nowadays Johnnie's dosage of K-9 Immunity is 3 chews a day, first thing in the morning. The reason: cost and to manage my stock of K-9 Immunity , since it doesn't ship to Brazil and I therefore have to rely on friends and family that travel to the U.S. and bring one or two packs.
