Good for you all, because it may be that none of you are on these brands of food to begin with, because when I did a quick search I only got like one post to show up. But, when it comes to prescription diets, they're all Proctor & Gamble (sp?) these days, aren't they? Grrrr. Which is why Gerry was on Iams Intestinal Low Residue, because he had to be until we could find something over-the-counter that wouldn't cause a recurrence of blood in his stool. (Sigh). Paws crossed that the one we're just starting now will work.
The good news is that only dry foods were recalled. With Iams, they were all dry prescription diets, I believe. With Eukanuba, I believe it si the Naturally Wild, Pure and Custom Care Sensitive Skin dry foods (double-check my memory at the link below if you use either brand). So if you can switch to canned of the same kind, you should be good. That's what Gerry will be getting until we can find another food that works for him with better all-around nutrition. I'm sure he will be delighted about this recall, because of all the canned food he will be eating for a while.
Also, good news is that no animals have been found to have gotten sick from the suspected salmonella contamination. But figuring out that your dog has salmonella poisoning can take a while - I would think - and then you also have to determine that the kibble was to blame. So it seems to me to be a bit early for them to be cheering about that… but I am a worrier and a pessimist, despite Gerry's good influence.
Anyways, I'm grumpy now, if you couldn't tell. I never wanted to put him on Iams in the first place and now this happens. Well, at least they did a recall and didn't (knock wood) get my boy sick. There's more details here: http://www.exam.....a-concerns
Might want to keep checking for updates via Google or whatever though.
Gerry has been a tripawd since 12/16/2009.
He was a shelter dog with a mysterious past and an irrepairable knee injury.
Videos and pics of Gerry's pawesomeness can be found at: http://gerry.tripawds.com
