DNA Test results back on Comet...

First off,

She averages 38lbs.

Loves water.

Loves tennis balls.

Looks like a minny Lab.

Acts like a Lab.

Has the markings of a Corgi.

Unless my little Comet is more seriously deformed than I thought, the DNA results rather suck!

Afghan Hound

St. Bernard

Bernese Mtn Dog

Again, I go back to my baby being made up of flower petals sprinkled with the halo dust of an angel.  'Nuff said!

Here's a pic of her standing since you already can see her face.

Sorry, I don't see it!  I wish I would have done this on Emily.  It would have been fun to see what her mix was.  I expect Doberman and Rott but who know.

I presume that you are a little sorry that you did not get the Standard Poodle that you had previously mentioned. I love mixed breeds - my first personal dog, Chrissy, came from the Anti-Cruelty Society of Chicago, but with the exception of trying to pindown her mix via physical appearance, we really did not know.  The one Poodle trait that she did have was that she did not shed. With my alergies, that was God Sent.

Since then I have only had Standard Poodles with lines that could be traced back more than six generatlions. The advantage is that close examination proves that "The Girls" (Cassy and Sandy) and Cherry both are direct decendents of the same line - great, great, grand parents.  (Remember "The Girls" where bright white and Cherry was black!) However, have said all that, Comet is still the personality regardless of the DNA. Just Enjoy!

Maybe they got the samples mixed up?  I don't see any of those breeds either.

LOL, I think Shanna is right, they must have gotten the samples mixed up.  There is no way there is no Lab or Corgi in there.

Hmmm....maybe St. Bernard is their "fall back" dog because we just had Montana's DNA done too and were also surprised to find out she had at least 12.5% St. Bernard!  They said at least 75% German Shepherd which is about right, but the other 12.5% Alaskan Malumute which was surprising too.  We want to do the test again through a different company and see if it comes out the same.

Yep, I agree the DNA results were switched! There is probably a family somewhere out there with a 150lb dog looking at Corgi results, scratching their heads.  I was thinking about getting one of these for Zoe but maybe I will save my $.

Yeah, I got ripped!   Can you imagine walking into the vet and telling him to scratch out the Lab mix on her chart because I have a  Afghan hound/St. Bernard mix???!!   He would know for sure I'm nuts.

Although, maybe I really don't want to know.  Knowing her for 11 years, I  know she is unique and special and really isn't that all that matters!??

M.B. Rocket on the other hand, is a nuisance and with only 6-months of living together, I wanted to know why is he such a stinker!  I was hoping his DNA would shed some light!  Monkeybutt is NOW a Diggerbutt and that's really getting on my nerves!

Bob, I think I've confused you a bit.  I was hoping Rocket, (not Comet as pictured here was) was part poodle.  He turned out to be schauzer, beagle and something else.   No poodle.  Yep, I'm disappointed.  Here's the post on that:

Bob, if you'd take Rocket, the monkeybutt dog, I'd make up a certificate that says he's poodle!!!! Big Blink

Sorry your tests didn't come back as you expected.  I can see the Bernease & St. Bernard in Comet's body and the Afghan in Comet's face.  I came back as Chow/Newfie/Husky/Beagle and my sister Gretchen came back as Husky/Borzoi/Grt. Dane/Shep/Poodle/Yorkie.  What test did you use?  We used the BioPet Lab one.

Who knew?!

Chuy's mom - I should have put a quarter in the photo so you can get size perspective! Wink  She's 38lbs but that's because she has serious muscles in her back-end.  She's about the size of a cocker.

I used BioVet Lab, too.

My regular doctor joked with me and said he should package up some cotton swabs and tell people to send pics and he'd tell them what their dog was! Viola!

I came really close to having a DNA test done on Yoda, then I got just suspicious enough after I learned they want a photo to go along with the DNA sample, that I didn't spend the money. I really don't know what to think now! On the one hand, yeah those results sound way out there, but you'd think if they were relying on the picture rather than a DNA test(as I suspected they might), they wouldn't have come up with those breeds. Seems more like your results got mixed up, no matter how they do their testing. Or a lot of really interesting recessive gene combinations were at work, haha.

Too funny!  I did the test, too.  Turns out I'm Egyptian, Spanish, and maybe 3-5% Korean.

Comet, Gretchen only weighs 65 lbs, but is part Dane?  I would think she would weigh more myself.  We want to know where in the lineage the Dane and Yorkie happen.  Laughing  We did not send in a photo with the tests for either Chuy or Gretchen, but it does make me want to try a different lab.
