Happy Hoppy Fifth Month Ampuversary, Tucker!
Tucker continues to thrive as a happy, healthy Tripawd.
Unfortunately, there are no new pics for this update as Tuck is recovering from lipoma removal surgery and he refused to have his picture taken with the dreaded "cone of shame ".
On Friday the stitches come out and I'm sure he will be delighted.
One of the strong recommendations from both the surgeon who performed Tuck's amputation and his regular vet was for Tuck to lose weight so as to prevent potential injuries from the stress and strain on his joints that excess weight might cause. Tuck and I are happy to announce that in the five months since his amputation that he has lost ten pounds (in addition to the six he lost when his leg was removed) - much to the delight of his regular vet!
Five months ago there were some involved in Tuck's care who thought he might not be the best candidate for amputation and I am thrilled to state that he has proven them all wrong
Once again - thanks for all the support from this wonderful Tripawd community which has made this journey into the unknown much more bearable - even fun at times.
Hugs to all
Linda and Tucker
What happy news to hear!!! YAY Tucker!!!! Can't wait to see photos (sans cone of shame ). How did he lose the weight? Just portion control? Shelby is bordering on chubby (in my opinion - not her vets) and I just want to stay on top of it with my super hungry pooch!
I love stories like these! I think vets like to give worst case scenarios so we can all fight a little harder and a little better to prove everyone wrong. Shelby is living proof of that right now!
Go Tucker!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
Happy 5 month ampuversary to handsome Tucker
Keep kicking cancer's butt!!
Joan and Lily
Our beautiful Lily was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her front leg on 12/14/11 at age 8 and had amp on 12/16/11. She completed 5 rounds of carbo. She was so brave and kicked cancer's butt daily! She lived life fully for 4 years, 3 months, and 15 days after her amp. My angel is a warrior princess. I miss her so much.
Oh Hoppy Day! Happy Ampuversary handsome Tucker. Way to prove them all wrong. Keep up the good fight. I look forward to your next ampuversary!
Amy & Libby
Liberty (Libby) was diagnosed with OSA on 1-22-13. Right front amputation on 1-31-13. No IV Chemo. Metronomic Therapy started 2-19-13 along with supplements and some home cooking. Lungs clear until 1-06-14. She's still her happy, hoppy, bossy self. Living the dog life to the fullest and a proud Winter Warrior. :) RIP my Libby 4-21-03 to 3-19-14

Hoppy ampuversary, Tucker! And many, many more. Be sure you get some cake when the cone is gone!!
Kathi and Murphy
Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!
UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!
Magic #5! WAHOOOOOOO!
~ Katy & Jackson
ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12. Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ! No side effects. We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments. He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors! Our love. Our funny little guy!

To answer your questions - Tuck's weight loss was achieved through portion control of prescription dog food (Metabolic) and healthy snacks - red pepper and cucumber slices and the importance driven home to his human (me) from both of the vets involved in his care about the importance of weight loss to the preservation of his remaining joints.
For all the people owned by labs - you know how hard it is to ignore those soul searching eyes when they are looking into yours and trying to convince you that they are starving........so it has been a hard journey some days
Tuck's food has now been switched over to a prescription joint formula and he still gets his healthy snacks...and occasional teeny tiny treats
Lovely Miss Happy Hannah - Tuck loves you just the way you are - beautiful - inside and out
More picture will be added soon - Tuck's healing from his lipoma surgery was a bit slow (some of the incision was actually near a very delicate area in his lower regions ) so the removal of all of the sutures was delayed by a week!
Many hugs
Linda and Tucker
Wow, that new eating routine had to be tough for all of you, congratulations on sticking to the plan, it does pay off doesn't it?
