It's a wee bit early on the west cost - but it is March 23rd on the east coast SO let the celebrations begin!!!

It's Angel Abby's Mom's birthday!

Since we don't know her "real age", we can only speculate!  So, here's the historic event on her day and year of birth!

 - 1st known use of term O.K. (Boston)

Her Retired AvatarComet - 1999 to 2011

She departed us unexpectedly  January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.

Thanks, Ge', for posting my "awkward years" (which I am, admittedly, still in...) up here. Going to have to have a talking to with my sis for posting that on Facebook!

Seriously - thanks for the bday wishes! And, yes, Rita and I are off to the beach shortly!!

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!

Happy Birthday!!  I just finished your book this afternoon and it really was a great read!  Congratulations!

Lisa

Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11.  A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. We decided to fight for our boy and his right front leg was amputated on 12/1/11. We did six rounds of chemo, changed his diet and spoiled him completely rotten. We were blessed with 10 great months after diagnosis. Against the odds, the lung met remained a single met and grew very little over those months. A wonderful furbaby with the most gentle spirit, he fought with a strength that we never imagined he possessed. We have no regrets...

Thanks everyone for the bday wishes! Thanks Lisa for the shout-out on the book! I'm glad you liked it!

As for Micki's list, here's a status update:

  • In and Out burgers - nope. 🙁 Not happening. But we are going to one of my fave restaurants tonight. big-blink
  • Margaritas - maybe this will happen, although it's an "Asian-fusion" restaurant, so their martinis are better than their margs. smiley
  • Puppy kisses - Rita is super stingy with these. So far I've only gotten one. 🙁
  • Human hugs — awkward or otherwise - none of these have happened so far. Phew! rasberry Seeing my friends next week and I'm sure they'll make me have some of these.
  • Beach time - Yes! This happened. (But it was cold)
  • Nap time - I'll try to make this happen, but first want to go get my tribute ribbon in the mail!
  • Cake time - not so far, but they have choc. lava cake at the restaurant!
  • LOTS of presents! - hubby accidentally had presents sent to our old address. D'oh! Has been trying to organize getting them back but so far no luck.
  • Lots of happy Abby memories - yes, many of these! Although there was one weird tripawd/Abby-related thing today... There was this tripawd I've never seen before on the beach coming our way and I was all excited to say hi. So I'm like "A tripawd!" and the woman ignores me. So I say hi to the dog and then I ask the woman "Is he a tripawd from cancer." And she says, "No. Why would you ask me that?!" Rude, right?? I said, "Because that's what mine was a tripawd from." And she didn't say anything else - she just walked away. mad Yep - the first rude tripawd owner I've ever met!

So far, that was the only bummer part of my day! The rest has been very good and will get even better once the hubster gets home from work.
