Ge'Lena,
I've been thinking about you and your beloved, wacky, special Comet. And I have to say remember the wonderful, loving life that you gave her and also that without you, she wouldn't have had it. We adopted a very special kitten many years ago from the pound. When we were standing in line to pay our adoption fee, the woman behind us said, "Oh, how wonderful that you're adopting that kitten...that no one else would possibly want........" Whaaa??? We really didn't have a clue as to what she was talking about. We fell in love with our boy immediately. We didn't know at the time that he was blind and deaf (although his hearing developed later as well as some poor eyesight).
He had multiple birth defects...cute qualities, as we saw them...his chest was really wide and his hips very narrow...he fell over often as a kitten......although developed great strength in his upper body later...... we didn't know til he was 3yrs old and confirmed by a neurologist that he was autistic (we were guessing...) Late in life, he developed diabetes.....I know the vet thought we were goofy when we laughed when diagnosed, not because of the diagnosis, but that it was something we could treat and did.
As the years passed by, we knew that without parents like us, (because, yes, like you, these are OUR CHILDREN) he wouldn't have survived the 15yrs that he did, much less 15 days with anyone else. The same held true for Comet. Without you, Comet wouldn't have had the wonderful, loving, spoiled (of course!) life that she experienced.
I just wanted to share this with you. Your Girl had the most wonderful of lives, because of YOU, Ge'Lena.
I just had to voice this to you.
I know that all of our tripawds are also blessed to have pawrents that love them so much, we do anything and everything for them.
That's love. No questions. We just do, as do they.
Big hugs and love your way.
Denise

To us, they're just our kids. We love them.

Thank you Denise for sharing that wonderful story. I actually needed to hear that tonight.
Special need animals, whether it be emotionally tramatized or handicapped are just something special.
Thank you for taking the time to write and share.

Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Denise, Thanks for sharing your story. It's pawrents like you and Ge'Lena that truly make this world a much better place for our fur-babies. Our Tripawds community is filled with so many special pawrents who open up their homes & hearts to those that desperately need a loving home. Thank you for being you.

Thank you, Ge'Lena, Cathy and Brett.
We don't see ourselves as doing anything special. I guess we always are pulling for the underdog (or cat!)
I have to say, she was not happy about being left out earlier, we also have another kitty, Holly, so named because when she was a kitten, she was thrown out of a car on an elevated highway/trestle 80ft off the ground)...we were several vehicles back, swerving at 60mph to miss hitting her.....I stopped, put on my flashers (no shoulder on that highway!) and my partner got out and ventured back to save the kitty......scary scary scary....did I mention, it was also dark and icy and oh yes, Christmas eve ! Three times I had to hit the gas, so not to be hit....people were actually swearing at me !!! Anyway, in the now distance, I see Chris walking back towards my truck (on the little raised curb, with the guardrail that comes to your knees........yes terrifiying) ...then I see this little face peaking out from within her coat........kitten!!!
From there we went to the emergency hospital. She had a fractured sinus and her claws were all ground away, from skidding to a stop.
It took her four years to not be afraid of Christmas....now she's a sassy girl 😉

Denise and Ge'Lena,
You both are amazing. I shake my head thinking how wonderful you both are to have rescued the pets you have. Always there to save something more vunerable.... I so admire that. I'm so honored to know you both and that both of you will always be there as a voice for our precious pets.
Kami
My sweet golden Mackenzie. She became my angel on Dec 29, 2010 at the age of 8 1/2 although she was always my angel from the time we brought her home. She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in Sept 2009 and officially became a tripawd (front leg) on Nov 5, 2009. She will be forever in my heart and now she's running free with all of our other tripawd heroes. I love you Mackenzie!
