I got my German Shepherd/Border Collie mix in 2003 from a stockyard in Brewton Alabama. Two years went by and he became the most loving sweet, laid back, playful dog in the world. Then on a cold night in December he fell to the floor stiff and moving his legs as if he were swimming. Although i wasnt there that night, my dad set the scene for me. When he first started he was given Primidone only once a night. Then not much longer after that he suffered a bad seziure, this was the longest ever nearly 5 minutes. The previous ones he had lasted only around 2 to 3 minutes. So "Doc" our local vet sudgessted that we give him the pill once a day and once a night. he usually has one every month, but there have been cases where he has gone nearly 2 months wuthout one.  After a seziure he seems kind of tired, but soon after is out running and playing with our cat. Lucky now is about to turn 6 on Christmas and he continues to be his old self despite the cruel seziures and live each day to the fullest.

I had a friend with an epileptic dog, so I know what a struggle it is for you and lucky.  I so hope for the two of you they are able to keep the seizures under control with meds and Lucky continues to lead a happy life.  If you are here and sharing his story, I am certain he has a caring pawrent who will see he gets lots of love and the best care.

We are sorry to hear of Lucky's seizures. From the tone of your posting, you sound like a very caring pawrent who has a very great relationship with their companion. Our little sheltie Allie, also had seizures and we were able to keep them totally under control with medication. Over time we had to adjust the medication, but were extremely successful. Hopefully, your local vet has done a complete workup and not just assumed epileptic because of the seizures. For Allie, it was not epilepsy but rather a thyroid imbalance. Her seizures were very similar in every other way and were totally controlled with pills in the morning and evening.

Good Luck and we wish you the best.
