Don't ask me how or why, but Bo is still chugging right along. We thought for sure we were going to lose him a couple of weeks ago, but our beach trip seemed light a spark that was still burning in him.
We started Prednisone the Monday after the beach trip. The first night on the Pred. was awful. His body was so tired and he wanted to sleep so badly, but he couldn't stop panting and it felt like his heart was going to beat out of his chest. I promised him that we wouldn't put him through anymore... Then, the next day, he jumped up, went potty by himself, ate breakfast (wanted seconds) and had a completely fabulous day. We decided to knock the dosage of the Pred. down to a 1/4 of what he was prescribed. (Doc. said it was ok!) So, that's what we've been doing...a small dose of Tramadol and Pred. We have cough tablets as needed.
I realize that this is not a cure. I do see his body slowing down. I have felt a couple of lumps/bumps in places that are prone to swollen lymph nodes. I hear the cough on occasion. I know that our time is limited. But....each day is such a special gift with him! School started back and I have a full-time teaching job...yay! We don't get as much time together during the day, but the time we do get in the evenings and on the weekends is so happy and sweet.
We started the penny jar method. We have a cup for good days and a cup for bad days. We have promised that we will set him free when the bad days outweigh the good. So far, he has 2 bad day pennies and the rest are good. 🙂
Thanks for all of the pawsitive thoughts...they are working!! Happy 12 Week Apuversary, Bo!!
Yay, Bo! Glad to hear he is doing better! You guys have been on our minds a lot!

That's terrific!
I'm so happy to hear about Bo! Tell Bo we are saving our good pennies over here just for him!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Oh, I'm so happy to hear this! I'd been worrying about you guys since your post about hearing the Cough. Hooray for the beach trip, hooray for perking up, hooray for sweet days and nights with Bo!
Hope his good penny jar overflows!
All the best,
Jackie, Abby's mom
Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. I love that the good is kicking the bad to the curb! I will be sending the best of "good penny" energy and prayers to Bo. His video touched me very deeply.
I am glad you have the full time teaching job too! Yay! I work for the school district where I live and it is scary right now, they are talking strike.
Hang in there, the sweetest moments are upon you 🙂 Love to Bo,
Elizabeth and Sammy
