I just wanted everyone to know that Queen Nova did wonderfully this afternoon in her ciliary body ablation surgery for her glaucoma. It was unexpected surgery, and I wasn't too enthused about putting her under anesthesia, so I was a wreck all afternoon. Of course it went fine. What was really funny is that they commented that "Nova doesn't like to lay down, does she?" I thought that was the most bizarre comment to make about my lazy butt couch potato dog. But then I realized that Nova stands up when she us stressed and wants something, In this case she was letting the staff know that they must summon the lady in waiting (that would be me) to transport her via mobile throne, back to her soft fluffy couch at home.
The best part of it all is that it is very apparent that the eye pain has been relieved. The eye looks horrible, all bloody, I won't even lost a picture here because it will make you cry, Yet the pressure in her eye has decreased to almost nothing. Hopefully it will stay that way. This procedure apparently has only a 65% success rate, so it will take some time to see. It worked great on her other eye so I have every hope it will work for this one.
Again, thank you all for your positive thoughts over the past few days. It never occurred to me that Nova's glaucoma would be a tougher battle than the cancer, but it is. It did make my day to see how happy the staff at Michigan Veterinary Specialists was to see Nova again. And how shocked they were to see that she was still kicking that cancer's butt. They hadn't seen Nova there in almost 2 years and everyone just assumed that she had succumbed to the cancer. WRONG!!! It was such a blast seeing the looks on their face, shock, awe, tears... When they realized she was still here. It made me so proud of my girl.
Nova and Trouble keep beating the odds (and scaring the bejeebers out of their moms). My only hope and prayer each day is that each and every one of our Tripawd friends can follow in our footsteps and beat this horrible disease.

Hi Sue,
Good news!! I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to post before- I was pretty sick and off line for several days.
I did enjoy your visit to the eye vet pics in the Queen's blog. The pugs are regulars at our eye vet. Obie LOVES it there- everyone gives him treats. He can't wait to get into a room and get on with things so he can get to the treats!!!
Long Live The Queen!!!

I couldn't begin to say how special Sammy is to us. Living and laughing with and loving this wonderful boy is priceless.
I'm so happy to hear! I'm sorry she had to go through a surgery but I'm really happy to hear she is okay and the pain is gone. YAY Nova!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Greatest news ever. I know how you feel about being blindsided by something other than cancer. It just knocks your socks off to seemingly beat the odds with cancer only to get the stuffing kicked out of you by another chronic illness.
Wishing the Queen a very speedy and uneventful recovery. Just think, when recovery is over, you won't have the demon glaucoma to deal with anymore. Yea!
Shanna & Spirit Trouble ~ Trouble gained her wings 3/16/2011, a 27 1/2 month cancer survivor, tail wagging. RIP sweetheart, you are my heart and soul. Run free at Rainbow Bridge.
The November Five - Spirits Max, Cherry, Tika, Trouble & Nova. 11/2008 - 3/2013 An era ends as Queen Nova crossed the Bridge.
So happy the Queen is feeling better! Sending good wishes that the surgery is a positive number in the 65% success rate.

Wow! Cancer sucks but glaucoma obviously reaaaaaallllly sucks. We'll be sure to let people know!
Nova is simply invincible, and a true gift to humanity. She has touched soooo many people and her courage is something we can all look up to the next time we get to feeling sorry for ourselves. What a brave, awesome girl.
All Hail the Mighty Queen!!!
Keep us posted and let us know if the procedure works as well as last time. With Nova, I'm sure it will.

Sue, great to hear about the successfull surgery. Amazing at how spastic we get once that crap cancer shows up, great to hear Nova has slapped it silly , I didn't realize she was in the same kickin' cancers a** group as Trouble, way to go. Big paws up to Nova, Spirit Gus and Dan
Do great danes have trouble with being put under anesthisia, seems like I have seen a couple cases where the results didn't turn out good when they were?
My buddy Gus had a left front amputation on April 7, 2010 and lived a great life until July 26,2010
Thank you so much everyone for the kind words of support for Nova. It means so much to be able to come here and vent, and then have such heartwarming, supportive responses. You all are awesome. I didn't realize how much pain she must have been in until today. I can definitely see a big difference in her attitude. She is hungrier than ever, back to "talking" rather than whining, tail going full blast, ripped the fuzz out of a couple of her stuffies, was extra snuggly with everyone, and the best part was that she met me at the door when I came home! She hasn't done this in... well, I can't even remember the last time she did that! It was probably even long before her amputation. She even spent extra time outside just hopping around and enjoying the snow. It's just wonderful. I know a lot of people (who don't know her) look at her like she's some kind of basket case with all these problems, but this is one happy gal, who is happy to be here even though she can't see, has 3 legs, and a bunch of lumps and bumps and crazy-looking dangly "old lady" growths. Truth is, she really can "see" so much... her senses are so in tune with her surroundings it just amazes me.
I feel horrible when I think of how long she might have been enduring this eye pain, and how long it took me to notice it, when I was focusing more on the cancer recurring. Argh. Oh well. I am just so happy that her pain has been relieved.
Long live the Queen!
