Well I am happy to report that it has been 2 WHOLE WEEKS without any dog dramas in the house.  3 weeks since Nova's Memorial Day weekend nightmare.  So all continues to be fine and dandy in the Kingdom.  I wanted to tell you about something really special that I did this weekend, after putting it off for way too long.  Even though I have talked several times with Tesa’s mom, Jill, we had still not met in person, so I went to go meet her at a craft show that was about 30 minutes from my house.  It was inside at a church, so I couldn’t take Nova along for the R-I-D-E.  I am sure you remember Tesa.  Her mom Jill posted on Tripawds a awhile back about her amputation and upcoming chemo.  She also had osteosarcoma, but is a rear leg Tripawd (Nova is a front leg Tripawd).  I am happy to report that Tesa is recovering wonderfully from her amputation, and she just started her first round of chemo this past Friday.  I took along a bag of “appetite-stimulating” goodies for Tesa, namely canned DUCK and canned RABBIT, two things that stimulated Nova's appetite when she was queasy from her carboplatin.

Well those of you who have done chemo, you know it costs big bucks.  Jill is doing something WAY COOL to help defray the costs of Tesa’s treatments.  She has gone way beyond simply asking others for cash donations, she has started a small business called “Treats for Tesa”.  She bakes all different kinds of wonderful dog treats, packages them up, and sells them to pawrents as a fundraiser for Tesa's care.  She travels to various craft shows on the weekends to sell the treats, along with many other wonderful handmade items like fleece bones and dog pillows, tug toys, and all sorts of other cool stuff like spinners that humans can put out in their yards.  Nova loved her delicious grain-free peanut butter treats, handmade chicken jerky (not that junk from China), fleece University of Michigan bone, and a giant pillow with pink owls all over it.  All CUSTOM MADE WITH LOVE by a TRIPAWD MOM!  It just doesn’t get any better than that!  I tell ya, some of the most cherished items I have are those that were handmade by other Tripawd Pawrents, like our ornament made by Gayle's Mom and Tripawd Mom necklace made by Jerry's Mom.  Here is a picture of Nova with her new pillow made by Jill.  It smelled just like Great Dane (Jill has two Danes) so she slobbered all over it right away and carries it around like it's her baby:

You probably remember the gorgeous photos of Nova I posted a couple weeks ago taken by my friend Kelly.  Well, Kelly is going to do some shots of Nova and Tesa together VERY, VERY soon.  It will be a great photo shoot…. 2 gorgeous Great Danes, 6 long legs…. a beautiful girl just starting her cancer journey and a regal Queen 3 1/2 years into hers.  And Kelly is going to do some special shots of Tesa and Jill together too like she did for me.  It will be so fun.  Of course I will share the photos once we can make it happen.  We need to wait a little bit to make sure Tesa is tolerating her chemo ok.

A quick update on the so-called “brain tumor”… Nova has not have any issues at all since that terrible Memorial Day weekend.  We still don’t know if the doctor was right about her diagnosis, but it sure doesn’t seem like he was.  I haven't yet had her tested for Addisons.  She is on a very small dose of Prednisone (which is the treatment for Addisons anyway) but once I can build the "dog emergency fund" back up, I plan to have her tested, just to see.  She really doesn't seem like there is anything wrong with her.  We are taking it one day at a time, loving life and having a great time together.

Well, I am no Pawpawrazzi like Kelly, but have been trying to improve my photography skills.  My kids laugh at me because I photograph the dogs more than I do them, but they know that's because the dogs are willing subjects.  Here is a nice photo I took of Nova this afternoon showing you that "ALL IS WELL" in the Kingdom of Queen Nova:

Wow, Nova looks great!  Maybe that Memorial Day weekend thing was just her trying to get some extra attention...Either way, I am so glad to hear she's doing much better, and you've had a very boring two weeks!  Hope Emmy is feeling better also!  Sending our love to the Queen and her sister!

Things were so very gloomy Memorial Day weekend-- I have been wondering about Queen Nova.  I am THRILLED to hear she is doing so well!

Scout: January 31, 2002 to November 7, 2011

Scout's diagnosis was "poorly differentiated sarcoma"; amputation 1/11/2011.  Scout enjoyed 9 fantastic years on 4 legs and 9 glorious months on 3 legs.  If love alone could have saved you…

She looks great. Hope things remain uneventful. Nopawdy wants dog drama!

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!

All hail the Dane Queen Nova for a pawesome update!

Sue, we can't thank you enough for all that you do to help Tripawd pawrents get through this journey without going insane. I can't wait to see the photos of Tesa and Nova.

If you talk to Tesa's Mom this week, please tell her she can feel free to post about her Tesa treats in our Skillshare Forum. I've been meaning to contact her about that but keep forgetting. I'll try to remember but if I forget, let her know she is welcome to share info about it. I know that others would love to try these yummy dog biscuits too!

Nova, you never stop amazing us!!!!!

Wow, really great pictures of Nova! My kids say the same thing....I take more pictures of my dogs than I do of them too. And I do. And don't sell yourself short, your pics are great! I'm so glad she's feeling better - maybe it was one of those big solar flares coming so close to the super moon? My dogs have the strangest things then it disappears and by the time I get to the vet with them he looks at me like I'm insane. I'm just glad she's feeling better and acting like herself.

All our Best

Yah, Queen Nova! We have our paws crossed that the Memorial Day was some flukey thing. She sure looks bright-eyed in that photo!

Smilin' Sammy, March 16, 2004 – Dec. 5, 2011
Golden retriever, diagnosed with osteosarcoma in September 2010 — right front leg amputated November 2010. He fought valiantly to stay with us; but a second diagnosis of osteosarcoma, this time in his left front leg, was more than our golden warrior could overcome. He loved his pack — and everyone else he met.

We loved him even more.
Thanks for the pennies, Sammy. They helped.

This is great news! Is Jill in Michigan? We are too.

Levi was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma 7-7-11
Ampuversary 10-14-11
Lung Mets Discovered 1-4-12. Chemo seemed to not be working so we switched to Artemisinin and other supplements. In May, Levi developed a sinus infection and started having seizures. The cancer had moved to his brain. We let him go 6-26-12.

Could not have said it any better!  We love you Nova and Zeus is proud to be one of your loyal followers!

Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11.  A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. We decided to fight for our boy and his right front leg was amputated on 12/1/11. We did six rounds of chemo, changed his diet and spoiled him completely rotten. We were blessed with 10 great months after diagnosis. Against the odds, the lung met remained a single met and grew very little over those months. A wonderful furbaby with the most gentle spirit, he fought with a strength that we never imagined he possessed. We have no regrets...
