A big THANK YOU to "Jerry" for making Kermit's be-YOO-tiful new tag:

photo-2.JPGImage Enlarger

It worked!  He had his 4th chemo treatment and chest x-rays last Thursday (9 weeks post-amp) & his x-rays looked "GREAT" according to the radiologist & oncologist!!!

He goes for another adriamycin treatment & an echocardiogram in 2 weeks, then one more treatment!

Considering that he was given 2 WEEKS to live if we had done nothing but pain control and 2 months at BEST with radiation, I am THRILLED!

I know every day is a gift, but I marvel every day at what a great gift it's been.  He's doing SO well and is SO strong that I couldn't have imagined a couple months ago that a dog with 3 legs & being treated for TWO serious cancers could be this powerful & this happy.

Here he is this morning waiting for me to put the rest of the squeaky "eggs" back into his fishy toy so he could yank them back out again: winker

Lovely items!!!!  Kermie, you rock it!

ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12.  Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ!  No side effects.  We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments.  He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors!  Our love. What wonderful wonderful news.  I am just overjoyed to read this.  Kermie is obviously a special animal with an amazing ability to face adversity.

So so so happy for you!  Keep up the great work Kermie, we're rooting for you!

Cris and Kermit. :-( :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

OKAY YOU TWO..THIS IS SUCH A GEAT DAY IN TRIPAWDVILLE:-( :-) :-) :-( :-) :-( :-) :-( :-( :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) KEEP DOING WHATEVER IT IS YOU ARE DOING:-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

I think all your contorted sleeping positions are what's giving you the edge. No disease wants to stay in a body that sleeps like that! This is also a not so subtle hint for more photos of that boy in his pajamas:-) :-)

Chris/Rene, those tags just gave me the warm fuzzies all over! THAT'S what's also giving Kermit the edge:-) :-) And Sweet Princess deservidly got one too:-) :-)

Kermit's mug is adorable....and those eyes looking up at you....are you kidding?? How could you resist giving him anything he wants all daylong!!

Okay, so now that we know part of the regiment that's working for him...sleep in funny positions...eat eggs (huh?) Out of a funky blue ball and wear custom made jewelery............ how does the rest of the tripawd community get one of those magical tags made?? You can't put a picture up like that and not expect us all jump up and down for our very own:-) :-) :-) I'm jumping now....the up part is a lot harder than the down part!!

I'm really so happy for you and Kermit! He looks great and I know he is savoring every second of his blissful life with you! Beaming over here for you:-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

And raising glasses to more and more joy still coming your way:-)

Beautiful tags! Kermit you are such an inspiration. Keep making us smile!

Spirit Shooter was a Miniature Australian Shepherd who was diagnosed with a MCT and had a LF amp 1/28/13 at 13-1/2 years old.

Shooter crossed the Bridge on 8/28/13, his 7 month ampuversary and two weeks from his 14th birthday.

Thank you so much everyone, I'm inspired by him every day and just wish I could stick him in my pocket & carry him everywhere with me. laughing

As for the tags, they are even nicer in person than in pictures.  Here's the link to the Tripawds Etsy store:

I also have the "Tripawd Mom" necklace & despite warnings to the contrary about showering in it (so that it won't discolor), I haven't taken it off since it arrived!

I'll try to get more pictures but he's such a ham that the moment he senses me watching him with the camera he comes over to investigate!

Way to go Kermie!  Love the bling, too. :) :)

Liberty (Libby) was diagnosed with OSA on 1-22-13.  Right front amputation on 1-31-13. No IV Chemo. Metronomic Therapy started 2-19-13 along with supplements and some home cooking. Lungs clear until 1-06-14.  She's still her happy, hoppy, bossy self.  Living the dog life to the fullest and a proud Winter Warrior. :) RIP my Libby 4-21-03 to 3-19-14

Thank you so much everyone... an update-

Last week when he went for his chemo I mentioned to the vet that he had some kind of rash on his front leg.  To be safe (after chemo), she put him on antibiotics.  Unfortunately they didn't agree with him & we were traveling that weekend- he horked up EVERY bit of his dinner on the carpet in our hotel room, right next to my head where I was sleeping with him on the floor. ugh  There goes our pet deposit!  Luckily he had the wherewithal to lift up the curtain with his head & hide it behind there. laughing

(fear not, I am an expert at cleaning up pet disasters and I did a bang-up job on this one!) big-blink

Anyway, we struggled through the weekend with the meds but he clearly was feeling puny & not eating well, so on Monday I called the vet & she said to go ahead & discontinue them & switch to a topical.  Unfortunately, since then he simply wasn't eating his dinner well.  He'd still eat treats, my snacks, pill pockets, but his homemade dog food was being left for his sister every evening and he's been rapidly getting very scrawny... and considering that he weighed MORE the week after his amputation than before the surgery, weight-loss was not in Kermit's lexicon!

SO, my husband suggested changing him back to his pre-illness diet on the off chance that he was equating his upset tummy with mom's cooking.

The damn dog has finished every last morsel of his Eukanuba Naturally Wild Turkey with Alpo canned since the first time I gave it to him, AND I've DOUBLED the amount I've been giving him!

We can be as careful as possible with nutrition, balancing protein, vitamins, fat, carbs, whatever, as we want, and we can choose the best possible commercial kibble, measure it to the last nugget, cook whole, natural foods to what we think will be tasty perfection... but in the end if the dog won't eat it he's not getting the nutrition he needs!

Sometimes you just have to go with whatever the dog wants & throw logic out the window!! laughing
