Hello fellow tripawds! Just wanted to let you know how my dog Winston - 6 year old Golden Retriever is doing, now that we are about 5.5 weeks post amputation ( left rear leg). Well, he is doing really well! The old Winston is definitely back - stealing my twins food from the table, barking at visitors, chasing his tail (!!), and chewing up sticks and leaving the bits under the sofa, destroying squeaky toys in minutes and rolling in the grass on his back with all 3 legs waving in the air.... If ever there was confirmation that amputation was the right decision - this is it! I am taking nothing for granted though and daily I tell him how much I love him, and we go for short walks (always one, sometimes two) - every day. We are not doing chemo - mainly because finances are tight - we have two special needs children whose therapies are not covered by health insurance - so most of our money is spent on private therapists.
Thought you might like this quote from one of my twins: Both twins have got use to seeing Winston with 3 legs now and are fine with it - so much so that Teddy, my 3 year old little boy, said to me the other day as he watched a 4 legged dog in the park...'Hey Mommy, that dog has too many legs!!!".
With wags and licks from Winston and his mom, Carolyn.
PS I will try to send a photo soon, so you can see my beautiful Winnie.
Yum, I love chewing up sticks! It's great to hear such a good update. Thanks for sharing.

Winston has given you the reassurance! Good for him.
Please give him a big hug for me.
Jessie
Hey Winston...hope you're still doing great 🙂
Yeah, I love chewing the sticks too...i try and sneak them in the house, but mom always seems to catch me. It's a bummer...you have an amazing mommy who takes great care of all her babies...you're very lucky. My mom realized through all this that none of us know how much time we have whether or not have cancer or any type of illness - it's really made us appreciate each and every day.
Hugs and licks -
Love,
Zeus

Yes Zeus, you are right. Mommy appreciates every minute that she spends with me... I live with my grandparents and they are taking real good care of me, but mommy visits me at least twice a week and then she just looooooveeeeeessssss me all over!! She has two babies (dawgs) at home - a Pitbull called Selma and a mixed breed called Hiro Nakamura. (They are my fave friends - we play so well together!) Since my diagnosis, Selma and Hiro has been her shoulder to cry on... They lick her face every time she is sad and they try to be funny when she is feeling down - they are two really funny clowns...
Animals are a gift from God and they should be treated with respect and love. It is wonderful to meet people here who feels the same way and who takes such good care of their furry friends! Yes, finances are tight sometimes, but us dawgs know that our pawrents are doing the best they can and loooovvveeeessss us plenty!! That is why we will always wag our tail when we see them... 🙂
Please send a pic of Winston!
Lotsa licks and lotsa love, Dee xxx
Hi Winston and Mom! It is fantawstic that you are doing well and back to being yourself. It only take time and patience and for us to get use to the fact that we are good looking even with 3 legs. Keep us posted and between the two of us...my mom now forgets that once in my life I actually had 4 legs as I act just like I did then. full of life, energy and love. Best wishes for you....
Has anyone heard from Charlie Brown...where are you? Let us know how you are doing. I have not been on the site for a little while so if I missed any of his posting please let me know. He had his surgery the same week I had mine and was wondering how he is doing...Thanks.

Great news Winston! We are so glad to hear that you are feeling good. I love the quote from Teddy. Did you know that one of my humans is also a special needs child? When I came home from amputation, my boy looked at me and said "see, I told you all that he would look cool".
And I love to eat sticks...
Love,
Charlie Brown
Hey Kellie...funny that you say that because we went up to my mom's sisters house for Father's Dad today and we had 3 kids and 4 retrievers running around (myself included) and mom said (I overheard her) that she forgets that I only have 3 legs and what a strong and courageous boy I am and how proud she is of me 🙂
Made me feel like a million bucks!
Glad to hear everyone is doing so well -
Love,
Zeus
