Glad to hear you made the call, you won't regret it, and lucky you were able to get in right away, thats great. Trust us, you made the right decision, yea, your next couple weeks won't be a ride in the park, and for some they start to feel guilty about having it done when things don't start getting better right away, the one thing you can't do is second guess yourself, that will eat you up. try to get some sleep if you get the chance, it's something that you may not get very muich of for the next 10-14 days, and if you start getting really tired, small things turn huge real fast, and that's when doubt, guilt, and any other crappy thoughts about everything start to set in. You will be amazed at how well Marley will do once he heals, and there wil probably be a point where you will say I can't believe I waited so long and was so worried. Good luck tomorrow, Paws up, Spirit Gus and Dan
My buddy Gus had a left front amputation on April 7, 2010 and lived a great life until July 26,2010
We hesitated with the decision to amputate Bo's leg as well. I will never forget the painful look he gave me the morning of surgery. That made me get him up and get him in the car. The next day we picked him up and he came barreling out of the door, dragging the vet behind him. We never saw that painful look in his eye again; not even on the day he died. The first couple of weeks were tough…Marley will be going through a major surgery and will simply need time to rest and heal. After that, your dog will amaze you! Bo lived for 3 months after surgery and even though we only had a short time, we have no regrets.
Come here for any advice you need…our community is wonderful!! Get some rest and keep us updated!! Good luck, Marley!
We are so happy right now. Just talked to the vet-- they are completely amazed at how well Marley is doing. His surgery was this morning, and he has already been outside 4 times (pee'd and poop'd) on his own-- with no help! Yea! They said he is in great spirits and has pretty much adjusted to being up on 3 legs. I am so relieved that his surgery went well. Thank you, everyone, for your support. I know that the next week or two will be tough at home, but we are ready for him!
Wow - already pee'd and poo'd! Awesome. So glad to hear the surgery went well and that he is already up and about. What a trooper.
Treats for everyone to celebrate!
Hope his recover continues to go well!

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Oh YES! Go Marley! It's amazing that his pees and poops are already happening. Celebrate with the potty dance!

Wow- peed and pooped on the first day.... Marley is a star!! We waited until day 5 or 6 for the first poop.
I'm glad his surgery went well. I'm also glad that you are ready for his homecoming. Maybe Marley will be one of the lucky ones who sails through recovery!

Post surgery is tougher on the humans than the dogs for the most part. Marley will adapt well, and you will worry. Don't forget to rest when Marley rests. A tired human is not good.

Sounds great, one thing to keep in mind, alot of times when people pick their dogs up they look great, then crash a day or so later, and by that I mean just lay around, not much appetite, etc, so don't get to worried if that happens, its not uncommon. Don't be afaid to ask anything, experience gives the best answers, Paws Up, Spirit Gus and Dan
