It's been a very long time since I've contributed to the forum. I've stopped in occasionally to read the blogs but that's pretty much it. Sad how life can get in the way some times.
I just wanted to stop in and offer Radar's hope to all of you out there, whether you have a tripawd currently or are contemplating the decision. Some of you may remember Radar. Well while grooming him today I realized he had an anniversary coming up. In about 2 weeks he will be celebrating his "2 YEAR" ampuversary. That's right! 2 years since his cancer diagnosis and front leg amputation. And he is doing utterly amazing - no sign of mets - no sign of slowing down.
What's his secret? Only he and god knows. He hasn't had chemo or radiation. For the most part there has been no special diet. We haven't treated him differently than the others in almost any way. Sometimes I wonder if it really was cancer but we will never know that now (diagnosis was done by x-ray, not biopsy and we acted as quickly as we could). I think that because he was a relatively young dog who had then and has now the most amazing zest for life that I have ever seen that his own constitution has helped him beat the odds. He approaches everything with gusto and a winning attitude. Nothing can slow him down ... Nothing can defeat him. You know how they say laughter is the best medicine? Well Radar seems to be always laughing - laughing at cancer, laughing at anything that thinks it can beat him and just plain laughing because he's that kind of happy guy.
Radar and all his two legged friends want to celebrate his ampuversary passing his hope on to all of you. Cancer is not the end. Amputation is not a storm to be weathered - just a ripple caused by a drop of rain on the ocean of life.
Life can and does go on...... laughing.

Connie, we can't believe it's been two years already! Your first post in July 2008 seems like a million years ago, and yet, just yesterday. Wow. Two years. Just mind boggling and wonderful.

We never really know why one can have such great success while others have their journey cut so very short. We will never ask why but celebrate those successess and morn the losses. To that end, we will be celebrating this wonderful milestone. Radar is an inspawration and deserving of extra hugs, more playtime, special treats and ICE CREAM.
May you keep on sailing this ocean of life with the same optimistic attitude, gentle breezes from you aft, and calm seas, but most of all with Radar.

Kami (Mackenzie's Mom)
My sweet golden Mackenzie. She became my angel on Dec 29, 2010 at the age of 8 1/2 although she was always my angel from the time we brought her home. She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in Sept 2009 and officially became a tripawd (front leg) on Nov 5, 2009. She will be forever in my heart and now she's running free with all of our other tripawd heroes. I love you Mackenzie!
Yea Radar !
Thank you so much for sharing!
I try to remind myself that this is a bump in the road and we will go forward. But, it's so nice to be reminded of that. you know?
I still find it easy to get caught in that tunnel vision" in deep with all of it", you know?
What type of cancer was Radar dianosed with ?
What a beautiful pup to boot !!!
Celebrate and celebrate often 🙂

Kona Kai's pup brother and sister as well as her buddy and playmate cat, Shaymous 12yrs (like Seamus), miss her terribly.
We've been there Denise and it's so very easy to watch every little thing looking for something to worry about - but Radar never let us get caught up in that tunnel vision for long. Whether he is fleaing his teddy bear, washing my hubby's feet, racing across the yard trying to catch birds or just snuggling on the couch with me getting as close as is physically possible - it's really hard to see anything sad past all the joy he radiates. He was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in his left front pastern.
Yup - ice cream and cookies are definitely on the menu after a visit to see all his friends at the vet's office including the amazing and wonderful Dr. Fouty.
