Its a long time since I posted here although I have visited from time to time. I was so sad to see that Jerry had passed over to the Rainbow Bridge, and it made me value even more every day that I have with Winston. Anyway - just wanted to share with you that today is a special day as its Winston's( 7 year old golden retriever with osteosarcoma, and back right leg amputation) 6 month amputation anniversary today!!! He is just fine - we still go for our daily walks, he still swims and he still loves grass rolling, sticks and peanut butter kongs. I honestly didnt think we would make it this far - and I am so relieved he is still with us and still has a good quality of life.
My best wishes to all of you who have started out on this journey - it can be tough at times, but its so worth it to keep your best friend.
Carolyn and Winston - Seattle, Washington.
Yipee! Congratulations Winston, you are one awesome tripawd!
See, a little patience and pawsitive thought adds up, and before you know it, you've hit 6 months. Day by day, enjoying the moment, it's everything that life should always be about, right? Our humans are so lucky that they have us to remind them of that simple little fact.
Oh, and you know what? My pawrents were just in Seattle! We are so bummed that we didn't know (or spaced) that you live there. They were there meeting a couple of other tripawds, Tazzie and Pogo. Dang! Soooo sorry we missed you!
Your friend over the rainbow bridge,
Spirit Dog Jerry

Did you do chemo after the surgery?
Hi Max! No, we didnt do chemo. I honestly didnt think he would
make it through that - and it was very very expensive. ($500 per
treatment and Winston would have needed 8 treatments as he is a big
boy.) Also - it was logistically difficult - as I would have had to
drop him off at the cancer vets which is about 40 minutes away - at the
same time as dropping off my children at preschool. In the end - we
just did the surgery and concentrated on giving Winston a great summer-
and now here are in Fall and he is still going strong!! Nice to hear
from you Max - its a long time since I heard from you!

Hi Jim, Rene and Spirit dog Jerry
I am REALLY sorry we
missed you! I thought you were all in California or thereabouts and so
didnt realise you had ventured this far north! We would have loved to
have seen you! Do drop me a line if you are near here again - even if
it is when Winston has joined Jerry as a spirit dog. Like many others
here, your website has kept me going when things were rough(or ruff!!)-
and it would be so great to say thank you in person!
Carolyn and Winston.
Carolyn,
Yeah, we are bummed too! We've been fulltime RVing since June of 07. We plan on returning to WA next spring, to see if we might want to live there. We will definitely look you up.
It's so wonderful to hear that our site has been helpful to you, it means a lot. If you ever have any suggestions to make it better, please let us know OK?
Good luck with Winston, keep us posted OK?

Congrats on making it to the 6 month mark! It has been 2 months since my dog Tazzie had her right front leg amputated and she is also doing well. We live in Puyallup. Maybe some day we can meet you at a dog walk! We try to do a Humane Society walk at Magnusson Park once a year. Tazzie is getting chemo every 3 weeks so it might take her a while to get her strength back.
Good luck with Winston.
Pam and Tazzie
It really is wonderful to hear that Winston is doing so well. We live in Portland, OR, so it's not too close to you guys, but at least we're on the same coast! Some of the other dog websites I spend time on, it always seems like everyone lives on the east coast, so this is a nice change. At least it is driveable!
