Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. Gus is still moving and drinking a little, but I think we are on the final leg of this journey, and as I have said all along I won't let him suffer for my sake, I am hoping he will go to sleep and that will be it, but at least it is working out I am able to be here with him so I guess thats the good part, we'll keep you posted, paws up, Gus and Dan
My buddy Gus had a left front amputation on April 7, 2010 and lived a great life until July 26,2010
You are both are in my prayers and thoughts. Sending to you Gus pawsitive thoughts. Please keep us updated, we will always be here for you.

We're so sorry, this is by far the hardest part. We know you'll find the strength to continue to do right by him and help him through to his next journey. This entire community sends their love and strength to you both.

Sadie and I have our paws and fingers crossed that Gus can be comfortable and as happy as possible. I hope that when he's ready, he will just go to sleep like you said. I had a dog that did that, and I was there with her, and it was sad, but peaceful. Gus has a great life though, so don't be suprised if he's not quite ready yet. He may fight a little thinking he's ate his last wood chuck. Let him know that when the time comes, there will be lots of them, and he'll have 4 legs to chase them with.
Hugs and sloppy Sadie kisses for you both,
Lisa and Sadie
Sadie is my 9yr old Rott/Shepherd mix. Diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her right scapula 1/28/10. Our brave girl had her amputation 2/13/10 and her last chemotherapy on 6/6/10. Unfortunately, a tumor appeared in her back right leg and on 10/7/2010 Sadie's earthly journey came to an end. On 10/24/2010 we adopted Ranger, a handsome Rott/Lab mix tripawd (got hit by a car) I think Sadie sent him to us.

Dan, my heart goes out to you and to Gus. Tshuvah and I will be in your shoes in short order and I am drawing courage from yours. Recently I put out a prayer request to a bunch of friends, that when Tshuvah's time comes, that she be granted an easy, quick, merciful passing. One of my friends sent this back to me, and I find it of enormous comfort. I've adapted it for Gus:
May Gus be held under the wings of the Divine Spirit.
May he
feel the gentle embrace of those who love him,
And when his time comes, may he melt into the One
As water into the ocean: painlessly returning
home.
And may you and your family retain the warmth of his presence
In
your hearts.
