Hi all,
My mother just informed me that Dee started coughing last night... He is also acting very strange lately - waking her up in the middle of the night to go outside...?? I am currently waiting for the vet to phone me back as I will have to take Dee in for xrays to check what is going on...
I am trying to stay pawsitive through this and taking one day at a time, but it is very difficult for me. I have to stay strong for my dad's sake - he loves Dee so much and will defiitely take bad news very well... This will break him...
Please keep us in your prayers - I will give you an update as soon as I've taken Dee to the vet.
Lots of love and licks from Dee!

Hi Dee - I agree with Kim, stay pawsitive for Dee's sake - and yours, and your dad's. What is meant to be will be and all we have is today - try and stay focused on the here and now.
Please let us know as soon as you know something from the Vet. We're sending lots of prayers and healing thoughts your way.
Much love,
Heather and Zeus

We are definitely keeping our paws crossed in prayer for Dee. We sincerely hope her xray's come back clear. Ansunette has always been so warm and pawsitive to so many people on this site that we hope you know we care about you and Dee very much. Let's just hope this is just a a minor problem and everything is OK. Please keep us posted.

Hi Pals,
Thanks for your good wishes and pawsitive thoughts - we really appreciate it. I feel much better today - I am over the initial shock. I had to cancel Dee's appointment for today, as it was impossible for my mother to take Dee for his x-rays. It is back to school today and my mother had to take my little “sister” to school, she is now in grade 5.
I have made an appointment for Friday - my father will be back from his fishing trip and will take Dee the morning. I will pick him up that evening. They usually phone during the day with the results, so I will keep you updated. I have also done a bit of research about the artemisinin and it seems as if we have the same plant in South Africa - Artemisia Afra. Our traditional doctors prescribe it to cancer patients as it has the potential to stop cancer tumor growth.
I am able to find the fresh herb and the tablets. I have sourced some drops called Matema - a blend of Mathema herb and Artemisia Afra and Aloe arborescens. It is used by traditional leaders to assist patiets with cancer of the colon, intestine, liver, lung, prostrate, breast and skin, cysts and tumours. I am definitely going to try it and have already contacted the supplier - just waiting for an answer. The artemisinin annua l. which is available in the USA, is not available in South Africa, so this will have to do.
I have spoken to another vet and she said that she is aware of the fantastic powers of this herb. One of her clients have imported the artemisinin annua l from the USA - as it is not available in SA. I am going to phone her today and tell her about the South African version of this herb. She is very open-minded and I believe that she will be able to share this knowledge with other pet owners as well.
Dee is doing fine - still waking my mother at night and eating my fathers plants… He is going to be very angry when he gets back tomorrow! 🙂
I am so happy for the time that God has given me with Dee - we celebrated his 8 month ampuversary last week and I believe that this in itself is a miracle from God and it has given me time to reflect on my own life and I have also learnt so much from this experience thus far. Eventhough it makes me terribly sad to think that I might have to say goodbye to my beloved companion very soon, I know that his struggle with this terrible illness will open new doors of possibility to other pet owners who are going through the same thing. I am sharing my knowledge and information that I have found on this website with the vets here in South Africa - thank you for that!
Thanks again for your support. I really appreciate it, it means so much to me/us!!
Sending good wishes to all of you out there!
Lots of love and licks, Ansunette & Dee xxx (the licks are from Dee, ofcourse!!)
Hi,
Feedback from the supplier of Matema:
“Matema is safe for pets. The dosage depends on the dog you have. A small dog should take 1 drop 4 times daily at regular intervals and a big dog can take 4 drops 4 times daily at regular intervals. The pet may feel tired in the first two days of treatment. You can also rup a drop on its ear close to the blood vessels for external absorption. This may be repeated twice daily.”
I am starting Dee on the medication this weekend - will let you know how it goes.
See website for more info on Matema: http://www.herb.....rica.co.za Click on Products and Matema
Sending love from Africa,
Ansunette & Dee xxx
Asunette, we send lots of hugs out to you. It's not an easy road, we know, but you definitely have the strength within you to walk this path with the kind of courage that Dee needs. Whatever happens, you two have a bond that can never be broken, and yes, by sharing your story, you are definitely making the world a better place for those of us who have found our dogs in your situation.
Thank you for the information on Matema, we started a separate thread about your use of Matema in Eating Healthy. If you want to add to it and discuss how Dee handles it, please feel free to do so.
We are thinking of you. And happy ampuversary, Dee! Congratulations, eight months is a VERY big deal!
