I came across this website as I was searching the internet trying to find information on support for three-legged dogs . My three-legged dogs is getting older, and I was looking for potential products to help support him in his old-age. This seems like a fantastic site.
Here is Tripod's Story...
Tripod was rescued in the middle of winter. His life was saved by Stray Rescue of St. Louis. He was found limping in the snow...apparently someone had chopped off his foot with an axe. Upon his rescue, his injuries were so severe that his entire leg had to be removed.
I started fostering Tripod a a couple of weeks after his amputation. He was a very shy and very timid dog. He had never been inside a house before...and he was scared of almost everything. However, he slowly bagan adapting to life as a spoiled house dog. After about 10 days, I took him to an adoption day at a local PetsMart.
As we entered the doors to PetsMart, Tripod became very, very scared. I think that the automatic doors and the slick floors inside the store really scared him. Because he was so frightened, he become very agatated and slipped out of his collar. He ran out the doors and into a park nearby. ...I searched, and searched for him for 2 days. I posted signs all around the neighborhood ...but Tripod was such a timid dog, I knew that he would never come up to a stranger. I thought that I had lost Tripod for good.
On the third day since his disappearance, I took off of work to post more signs and search the area some more. After posting signs and searching all morning, I came back home to check my answering machine to see if anyone had called about spotting Tripod. To my surprise, Tripod was sitting at the top of my driveway waiting for me to come home. I can not express how incredibly surprised I was to see Tripod sitting in my driveway. The park where I had lost Tripod was about 5 miles away from my house...Tripod had only had his leg removed a couple of weeks prior to his escape. ...plus, he had recently undergone treatment for heartworms.
I was so excited to see him, but I was also worried that I might scare him off again. So, I slowly got out of my car...but as soon as I got out of my car, Tripod came hopping up to me with his tail frantically wagging in circles. That was when I knew that Tripod was now in his forever home.
This all happened about 8 years ago. Tripod has been with me ever since. He is such a loyal and loving dogs. He hasn't left my side since that day.
Thanks for sharing Tripod's story! Any idea how he lost his leg? Or was he that way when you got him? I presume that's how he got his name...

Hi, ChristyRed! I live just south of St. Louis. I think if you look closely enough, you can see wings on Randy Grim's back, for he is surely an angel! Stray Rescue is fantastic and I am so glad they won the money.
What kind of things were you looking for to help? We have a really great portable ramp that I use to get in and out of our Blazer. I don't need it for a car, but as I get older, it would work there too. My mom's house was already handicapped accessible, so there are no stairs. Don't think Mom ever thought I would be the one the ramps were most important to.
Thank you for telling us Tripods story. I was thrown away as a puppy but was found before anything bad happened. I am so glad there are great people willing to help and take care of us. I am so happy Tripod has you.
Love, Tasha
