Today, Alexander is 16 days post amp.
As of Tuesday, his 2 week ampversary, he was on a 9 day streak of not wanting to eat......
Yesterday, I woke up in the morning expecting the usual turning up of the nose to food offered, instead.....he gobbled EVERYTHING down!! Super shocking!!! Apparently when my husband tried to give him dinner last night, after his very first Chemo treatment (Carboplatin) he gobbled it down again!!!!
It appears, that Alexander is a snotty boy that wants do do everything on his terms and we are WAY over babying him....The vets and techs were pretty much laughing at me as I described the week and a half of hell trying to get him to eat! They said first of all, he looks GREAT. He is not losing too much weight and some weight loss is actually good. Also, as he is not expending much energy, he needs less food.
As I left him with Ms. Nicole, our awesome tech who has been through this same thing, same breed, same leg, I told her to go ahead and try to give him a snack if she wants. She said okay, she had some stuff she'd give him in the back.....
I arrived to pick Xander up about 3 hours later, Nicole came out shaking her head and looking absolutely exasperated! Apparently, when I left, Xander took her for a full on drag through the vet hospital! Once they got him settled, she tried to give him a snack and he literally gave her the "up-yours" look and turned away from her. She told me he is such a snot, albeit a cute loveable one, he is a snot!!
SO, we know that Alexander is doing really well. Blood CBC, physical exam and Chemo went really well. He needs a CBC recheck next week to monitor WBC's. I have now given up worrying over his appetite or lack thereof. If he chooses not to eat, he will wait for the next meal...
Unfortunately he still has me trained to bring him water......and too many pets and kisses. He's a really good trainer!

Hi Shannon,
Chloe is 14 days post amp and she eats less than usual mostly due to less expended energy. She too likes to do things on her own terms such as going up stairs. If i try to help her go up, she resists. If I go up the flight and "ignore" her she goes up (5 stairs). Plus my dad taped carpet strips on the stairs for more "grip" but she walks on the edge where the carpet strip ends. Dogs can be silly.
Good to hear he is eating, even if it is on his own terms. Its the little things that make us tripawd parents proud!

Chloe became a rear amp tripawd on 7-29-10. Another tumor was removed on front leg 2-20-14. Found 3rd tumor on neck 2-2015, but she's still kicking cancer's butt at age 14. Chloe's blog
Shannon, let me assure you it is ok to be well trained by a cancer dog. Trouble has had me trained since the day she came home after amputation. I do what she wants, when she wants and that is ok with me. It is time I get to spend with her and she enjoys being catered to.
Bob pretty much laughs at me, because if she woofs, I jump - I really think he is just jealous!

Oh, what a weasel!
Catie has us trained as well - she still demands that WE bring HER a special bowl of water when she comes home from the dog park or a walk. She comes in the house; flops by the front door while Riley runs to the water bowl in the kitchen, and just waits. Yes. She drinks lying down.
Sounds like we're ALL very well trained.
I don't really mind at all.

Shannon, can we make you and Xander the poster children for Over-babying?

Too cute!!! And seems to be commonplace for our Tripawds to train us in good shape!!!! Goes around in this household too! Maggie was spoiled before but NOW, she's taken it way over the top!
Oh well, as Shanna put it:" it is ok to be well trained by a cancer dog."

Maggie was amputated for soft tissue sarcoma 10-20-09
Maggie lost her battle with kidney disease on 8-24-13
Great news for Alexander! Isn't it amazing how well trained we become. I have one very spoiled, vocal girl now and I wouldn't trade it for the world. I think she is a master trainer or maybe I am just a good student!
