Sorry that we have been off line for several months; I took on another committee assignment for our HOA (we are a community of 9,000 residents) in addition to my role in emergency preparedness. The new role has kept me very busy this summer. I have an extensive update on Rusty's summer that I will post to his blog.
This summer were the best months that he has had since his fight with cancer began. He is one incredible guy; Dr. Macy is amazed at how well he is fighting this terrible disease. With the exception of his liver, all his other tests and vitals are completely normal for the first time since amputation. We continue to battle his stomach issues, which have precluded him from taking any supplements, etc. including the Milk Thistle for his liver. However, he is eating better and putting on weight which he was unable to do while taking any meds. Apparently, the 12 months of chemo really did a number on his stomach.
It will be 22 months next week since his amputation and the battle began! Seeing how active and happy he is, you would never suspect that he is a special needs dog. We enjoy every extra day that we have with him!
Unfortunately, his liver is continuing to deteriorate, which may be a sign that the cancer is returning. I will post an update after we receive the results of Rusty's November 30 visit with Dr. Macy; he will be doing extensive tests, including a scan, on the liver to try to find out what is going on.
Chuck & Rusty
Rusty is a Labradoodle who was diagnosed with level 3 Fibrosarcoma on January 16th, 2010 and had his left hind leg amputated on January 25th, 2010 five days before his 18 month birthday. Please see Rusty's blog @rusty.tripawds.com. He is putting up one heck of a fight against this terrible disease.
Hooray for Rusty! 22 months is amazing!
Hope he has a good visit with the doctor! We'll be sending pawsitive thoughts for a good update!
Abby sends Rusty lots of kisses,
Jackie, Abby's mom
Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!

My sweet golden Mackenzie. She became my angel on Dec 29, 2010 at the age of 8 1/2 although she was always my angel from the time we brought her home. She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in Sept 2009 and officially became a tripawd (front leg) on Nov 5, 2009. She will be forever in my heart and now she's running free with all of our other tripawd heroes. I love you Mackenzie!
Awesone Rusty!
