I thought I would move Roanes updates over here.
Recap- Roane is a big beautiful 130 pound anatolian shepherd girl and the light of my life for the last 6 years. Last week we took her to the vet for a limp and found out that she has osteosarcoma in her right rear leg.
I spoke to the vet this morning an they have scheduled the specialist to come in on July 24th to do her surgery. Maybe I'm just being hopeful here but I'm going to take it as a good sign. We got roane 6 yrs ago for my husband's birthday (July 24th)🙏🤞🙏
Over all besides the limp she seems to be taking it well. We've switched her to a 50/50 mix of dog kibble and homemade cancer diet which she loves! And we're going to try Apocaps and k9 immunity as well. I dont know if it will help but it certainly cant hurt.
Best wishes,
Bev & Roane

My sweet soulmate Roane was diagnosed with osteo in June of 2019. Had a rear leg amp on July 2nd & crossed the rainbow bridge to be with her sister Gypsy on the first day of Autumn Sept 23 2019.
Thanks Bev, we are glad you will be sharing her story here. I think the 24th is a very good sign!!
Sounds like you’re doing your homework and getting prepared for the big transition. Let us know if you have any questions in the meantime.

Well we had a bit of a doggy accident tonight. Roane decided to try the porch stairs at 100 miles an hr as i was pulling in from work! One bad leg that didnt stay under her, One fall down the stairs, a car trip to the emergency vet and a heart attack for mom & dad!
The good news is shes ok nothing broken. Extra pain meds tonight. Fortunatly my vet is a friend and a wonderful, wonderful woman. Tomorrow shes going to hunt down someone who can do roanes surgery sooner. 🤞 hoping for this week.

Yikes! Glad all is well. If possible, consider using baby gates and ex-pens to keep stairs off limits for a while.

Roane officially becomes a tripawd tomorrow!
Sometimes life moves you in the right direction. I never relized how hard it would be to find a surgeon/vet who is willing to do amputation on a dog this size. Not judging, i appriciate that the vets at our practice know their limilations. Fortunatly we met a vet at the ER lastnight who was willing to move his schedule and take her on! We have a bit of a drive in the morning but its well worth it❤
Im so thankful to have found so many good people recently. The tripawd community with you wonderdul people and your love and support. My own vet who has gone above an beyond to help even if it means she wont be doing the procedure. And Dr Adrian at sandwich animal hospital for taking the time to fit her in immediately. It say alot to me when a vet is willing to put an animals well being ahead of making a dollar or an inconvenience to there schedule.
Lots of love,
Bev and Roane

Well you've got all of us keeping you and Roane in our hearts tomorrow for the big day!
We are glad you found a surgeon too. Roane isn't the biggest Tripawd we've had join us. Thanks to you and Roane, more vets who haven't gotten the news that giant breeds can make great Tripawds will hopefully see that yes they can!
Keep us posted on how thing are going. We are sending lot of love!

Alrighty beautiful Roane, we'll be surrounding you with lots of pawsitive energy for quick healing and smooth recovery!
My Happy Hannah (Bull Masriff) weighed 125+ lbs at time of her amputation. Her regular Vet had been in practice for at least thirty years at the time, and he said didn't feel comfortable doing a leg amputation on a dog "her size". So he sent us to an Orthopedic Surgeon. P,is, it wa a 24/7 dully staffed cljnic. So YAY for Veterinarians loke htat, eight? And YAY for Roane's Surgeon willing to schedule her in to get this handled quickly!
Now some larger sogs xray mpre than just one night, so don't let that concern you. She'll be on some good pain meds and seeing some be pink elephants.
Once you get her settled, try and get some rest yourself while she's in their care. Getting to this point can be exhausting, physically and mentally. And then the first seceral nights/days at home can make sleep a stranger.
STAY CONNECTED and update when uou xan. We're here to help you navigate through recovery and celebrate when Roane gets her sparkle back!

Thank you both for the positive thoughts and well wishes. Its a relief to knowing shes going in tomorrow. Today has been rough with the leg paining her. Im hopful that once we get this over with she will bounce back.
Sally you are so right about a little rest while shes in good hands. Ive been sleeping down stairs with her and everytime she moves i have a heart attack. Tomorrow after i drop her off i plan to run some errands and doggy prep the house then a nap lol. I did have some help today from an odd source. Our grouchy cat moe has been playing nurse all day! Even laying in the dog bed with her and kissing her head! Moe NEVER interacts with roane except to chastise her for barking. He hasnt gone more then 5 feet from her all day. Funny how animals just know!
Ill let you all know how things are going as soon as we have an update.
Hugs,
Bev, Roane & nurse Moe

Dr. Adrian just called, roane is out of surgery and resting comfortably! He said aside from her being bigger than he anticipated everything went as it should and hes going to monitor her for the night.
So relieved!!! ❤❤❤ now to get her home and healing!
