Thank you very much! Here's one I did today. I'm trying to keep things consistent, though I will slow down his training after the surgery. Not sure how much, though. Thinking I should play it by ear and see how his aftercare goes. I've been working on getting him to stop and stay at curbs, and in this vid I was seeing how he would do without the actual commands.
WOW!!! FASCINATING!!! What a good boh!!! 🙂 Good job kndeed!! 🙂 And he did that on hismown without a voice command.....truly amazing 🙂
You'll have to give us a tutorial on how you taught him that! And he seems so happy to oblige too! 🙂
Extra cookie for that boy!

I have to be completely honest, I'm doing his training very organically, and if he wasn't such a smart puppy I'm not sure it would be so easy as it looks. He still will, on occasion, anticipate the break command, but as often he'll stop himself realising he hasn't heard it. I'm working on stepping forward saying "stay" in the same tone and style as I say "okay" and he's beginning to catch on.
After he's recovered a bit we'll be going outside of the normal places we walk and I'll be working with him to do the same things at curbs he's never seen before.
We got this far because of consistency more than anything 😛
Oh I love that you started a YouTube channel, thanks!
Good boy Rix! You are doing GREAT with those commands!
And good job to you too Dad. This kind of training really pays off and creates such a strong bond with each other. Rix will thank you a thousand times over for the consistent work you're doing with him. YAY!

Well, he's had the surgery, a week later than expected because the original surgeon found complications in the preop x-rays he wasn;t comfortable with. Particularely, some arthritis in his good hind leg, also from damage done to him when he was in China. Apparently, both of them and his tail had been tied with wire for an extended period and that's what caused the left one to go lame, and the damage to the head of the femur in the right.
He was referred to a specialist orthopaedic veterinary surgeon who decided the arthritis was not as bad as thought, since he did not seem to be affected by it yet., She said that with some supplements and regular exercise, he should be fine for a while to come. If needed, some procedures could be done to alleviate and pain without losing the leg.
So he's sore, he's in some discomfort, but he's walking and peeing and sniffing bushes like he always had. <3
So glad surgerys over and he's doing all the things he should be doing! He looks so bright and alert on your picture! Bet you're thrilled to have him back home where he belongs! Your biggest problem may well be keeping him from over doing it! He already looks like he should sprint off! Remember Rixriley baby steps for a while!
Thanks for the update and best wishes for a speedy recovery!
