I agree! They are more special as a three legged dog! And let your son and daughter know thye'll be the coolest kids on the block because her dog is special!
Sorry to hear that your mother or mother-in-law just passed. Maybe you can tell your children, Piper's cancer is different and he'll be better.
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
We have a member here, anjl, whose daughter K is about 8 or 9, I think. (I'm probably way off...) K wrote an article or kept a blog (I wish I could remember the details) about some of our dogs here. She was quite fond of several and it was really good for her, I think, to help her deal with her dog Bud.
I'll send anjl a message on Facebook and ask her to check in here and tell you what her daughter did. It might help your older child if she wants to keep a journal or write an article or something. Think of the stories she'll have when school resumes!

P.S. I wonder if any of these kids should be doing email pen pal stuff. Now there's an idea!
From abandoned puppy to Tripawd Warrior Dude, Dakota became one of the 2011 February Furballs due to STS. Our incredibly sweet friend lived with grace and dignity till he impulsively raced over the Bridge on 12-15-12.

Thanks guys! It was actually their mother's mother who passed from cancer (My 11 year old twin stepdaughters are from my husbands previous mariage). They had a hard time with it because they were very close to her. They couldn't even bear to attend her funeral 🙁 We get them every other weekend and I plan to talk with them more about Piper then. I think my 4 year old daughter will do ok with it after a few days.
Id love to know what K did! That sounds like a great idea!
Kelly & Piper 🙂
Hi Kelly. I did send Angel (anjl) a message last night and she replied that she will check here over the weekend. Her family are vacationing right now and she is using her phone for email, so she has to wait till she gets home. She won't forget about you and your daughters, though!
While you're waiting, you could start posting the thousand bazillion pictures of Piper that we will whine about until you do.
Shari

To post pics here, you have to have uploaded your pics to the web first.
If you have a Facebook account and have uploaded pics there, here is a step-by-step way to post your Facebook pics here.

Photobucket is another place people can use to post pictures here. That's what I do. I have a free Photobucket account and I upload pictures there and then copy them over here. I have very few computer skills and am able to do this all by myself so it must not be too hard!
Have you thought of starting a blog for Piper? Putting pictures on the blog is different but you can put more pictures in the blog and they can be all in one place. And maybe you know of an 11-year-old who might want to practice her writing skills and work through some tough issues by writing things down...And if Piper himself were doing the writing, that could be a lot of fun. Any theoretical children can read through some blogs here and get some ideas, too.

I did start a blog for Pipes but I haven't figured it out...
Here are instructions for adding pictures to forum posts. If you don't already share photos somewhere online, the easiest way may be to upload them to your media library.
For hep with your blog, watch our tutorial videos or feel free to post in the Tech Support forum .

Spirit Samson was Spirit Tripawd Daisys four legged "brother" and ruled as the self proclaimed head of the Monkeybutt Federations East Coast Division. Lady Chunky Monkey stayed from Oct 2011 and left for the bridge in Apr 2012. Miss Perdy is left and has some big pawprints to fill.

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman.
