Hi Roxy and Lisa,
Welcome to Tripawds- I wasn't able to post anything yesterday, just approve your post. As you see your future posts will not/do not require moderation!
Do you know if they left a little stump of femur? That is common in rear amps. So maybe she fell just right (or wrong) on her amp site. Also it takes several weeks (I think) for all the nerves to die back from the incision site. Could it be that as a young pup some of the screeching was out of fear?
My pug Maggie was a left rear amp. It was several weeks, if not months before she would lay on her amp side. As a really stubborn middle aged pug she also was easily discouraged when she fell, at least at the beginning. As time went by her amp side became her preferred side to lay on, and she learned to use a fall into a sit as a pivot move!
I am looking forward to Roxy's adventures, and yes, more pictures!

Roxy seems to have just her hip but not 100% sure...I have an appointment next week with the vet that did the surgery to ask questions so I'll know more then. She lays on her amputated side all the time and she allows me to touch it with no problem...I do have laminate and hardwood throughout the majority of my house, which is what she fell on, so I am sure that didn't help. I do also feel it was partly fear, but she was fine after a few minutes. Definitely have some changes to make and lots to learn but I am up for the challenge
Oh and BTW everyone, my name is Teena, not Lisa

That video was great; so nice to see a tripawd pup bounding around. Roxy so wanted to fetch that stick, but big sibs always get there first, don't they? In the video, it looked like she had a stump of a femur-- although it was hard to say cause she was never still! Both dogs are so beautiful; you are going to have so much fun with those two.
Scout: January 31, 2002 to November 7, 2011
Scout's diagnosis was "poorly differentiated sarcoma"; amputation 1/11/2011. Scout enjoyed 9 fantastic years on 4 legs and 9 glorious months on 3 legs. If love alone could have saved you…
She's adorable! They look great together.
Have fun!

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Lovin' the black and white!!! Looks like Roxy is getting along well on three. And yes, it looks like they left a bit of the leg bone. Rio's amp was almost flush with her body, but there was still a little femur left.

OH MY DOG! What an adorable puppy she is!!!!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
OK, she is ridiculously cute! What a pair of pup's you have.
Roxy's amp site does look like Maggie's. The surgeon told me that it was a easier surgery to leave a little bit of the femur than to take it off at the joint. They wrap the muscle around the stump to protect it. I called Mag's her saddle bag! I could feel Mag's little stump, and sometimes I could see it move. I'm curious to hear what the vet says.
Roxy looks great moving around, and her balance looks pretty good too. She just looks like a rambunctious puppy!
I don't know where I got Lisa... Sorry about that.

Thanks everyone for your kind words...she is so adorable. I already love her so much!!!
@pugapalooza
No worries Karen, it is human to err ...no harm done. Roxy's stump moves all the time...I have seen her move it as if she was scratching behind her ear or when you scratch the "spot" on her chest she moves it...kinda creepy but funny at the same time

I called that the air scratch. It was one of those things that made me a little sad, but made me smile too. Maggie would put her chin out to the left and her little stump would twitch away! She seemed slightly puzzled that she didn't get any relief from her itch. She stopped doing it after a couple of months, and I was then responsible for scratching the left side…or she used the furniture or rugs, or her sister.
It's a good thing you put your name in your signature box, the way my brain works I would otherwise always call you Lisa!

I also have lots of laminate flooring in my house. I used a Ruff Wear boot on the back foot for a while (we don't need it much now but I keep it in the car in case we end somewhere with slick floors). Now we just have lots of strategic floor rugs. Also helps if you keep the fur between her pads on the back foot trimmed so more pad is in contact with the floor. Kess will modify her hop and come on the laminate now, but she doesn't like it and still slides out if she gets to excited. Ruf Wear has lengthened the boot design since I got mine so you shouldn't have to make any custom alterations, but if a grown BC is in the xxs it will be a while before they fit Roxy. A lot of disc dog folks use the ruff wear boots for shows on basketball courts and based on the fact that everyone has the xxs for their dogs I would say BC's have very small feet compared to their body size, who knew. The other nice thing is that ruff wear lets you order singles and I think Tripawds get a little something if you go through the link on the tripawds site 🙂
Roxy is sooooo cute! Both dogs make a pawesome pair. Welcome to tripawds 🙂
