Hi there,
So happy that I found your site!!! I have 18 years experience of successfully raising and training Border Collies and at this moment I am in the process of adopting my first Tripawd pup. This sweet girl is a 4 months old BC cross and came from a local reserve with a severe broken hind leg that resulted in a full amputation. It amazes me just how trusting and resilient dogs can be even when it is obvious they have been abused. I think she is going to be an awesome addition to my family and a great friend for my four year old female BC, Charlee
Roxy…Border Collie cross born on approximately October 27th, 2011;
Rescued in January 2012 by Oops a Dazy Rescue & Sanctuary;
Right hind leg amputated on January 20th, 2012 due to a severe spiral fracture;
Adopted on February 21st, 2012 by Teena, a devoted human & Charlee, a purebred BC.
Hugs, tail wags & sloppy kisses
Welcome! We're glad you found us, thank you for saying hello and telling us about your new pup. You're PAWESOME for adopting her!
Border Collies are so smart (my pawrents think I was part border collie...ahem!). We're betting she'll be running circles around your pack in no time. When is her big arrival day?
You're so right about dogs being so resilient. Our Tripawds Spokespup Wyatt Ray started out his life under bad circumstances at the hands of bad people, but he doesn't hold that against humans, he just wants to live life and herd the day away!
Can't wait to hear more about the adventures of your pack, thanks again for joining.

Awwwww!
Welcome! And bless you for adopting!
What's your new bundle of joy's name?
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Congrats on the new addition to your pack and welcome to the tripawd-lovers gang. Yes, dogs are so amazingly resilient. It's an awesome thing to be a tripawd pawrent.
Looking forward to hearing more about your girl and hope to see some pictures!
Welcome to the gang,

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!
Welcome aboard!! I too am a very new member, We found this site just yesterday. I have a 4 month old lab pup same circumstances severely broken rear leg and full amputation. I was totally impressed with the warm welcome sadie ad I received, as I am sure you have noticed!! I feel much more confidant in raising a tripawd pup now that a few days ago:)
Welcome -- we can't wait to hear more of your story.
You should take a look at Kess the Border Collie's videos. She's an amazing disc dog, despite being a Tripawd.

Thanks so much for the warm welcome ...our new girl's name is Roxy, my avatar is a photo of her. She sure is a special little girl!!! I have had my first scare today though, she fell of the couch while playing and hurt her "stump"...lots of screeching but all seems fine now. It is a very fresh amputation...about 3/4 weeks...any ideas on how long they will be pain like that? Scared the crap out of me and Miss Charlee...the upside is that now she seems to be showing concern for her instead of annoyance.

Hi and Welcome! Roxy is adorable and you are awesome for giving her a new life. Zeus' incision/amp site healed wonderfully, but it was a good month before he enjoyed us rubbing near the incision site. He was torn b/c the scratching felt good to the healing scar, but I think it also felt strange to him. Although the screeching could certainly be caused by pain (there are a LOT of nerves and muscles affected/healing from this surgery), it could also be a bit mental. I think falling is the time that they most realize that that leg isn't there anymore and it is very scary to them.
Glad to have you guys here. Hope Roxy continues to recover well!

Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11. A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. We decided to fight for our boy and his right front leg was amputated on 12/1/11. We did six rounds of chemo, changed his diet and spoiled him completely rotten. We were blessed with 10 great months after diagnosis. Against the odds, the lung met remained a single met and grew very little over those months. A wonderful furbaby with the most gentle spirit, he fought with a strength that we never imagined he possessed. We have no regrets...

Hey there Roxy and Lisa! Glad you found us. You'll see lots of us writing about cancer stuff, thankfully you can ignore all that! There seem to be lots of broken leg tripawds on the site as well, so you'll find folks like fourmappys that you will have a lot in common with.
It is scary when they hurt themselves, but being a puppy she's more resilient than older amps. As much as we all love a couch cuddle you might want to keep her off for awhile. You do want to try to keep her from hurting one of her other legs because she's going to rely on them more now. You're obviously wonderful folks both for adopting her and for raising all your other furbabies! Enjoy your precious baby!
Hugs and Wags,
Judy and Baby
welcome to you and roxy - such good karma to adopt her and give her a forever home!! sorry to hear she took a spill off of the couch, but glad she's rebounding, and big sis is not taking a 'motherly' interest. we definitely need more pictures!!
