The best thing you can do for her right now is to keep her quiet. She is going to think she can do anything right away, and with all those hospital drugs in her system, she will tend to overdo it. Just short, leashed potty breaks for now! Be sure to keep ahead of her pain, too. A harness may also prove invaluable for helping her. We loved the Ruffwear Webmaster .
Be sure you have non-slip floor coverings for her to walk on. Once her stitches/staples are out, you can take advantage of the Tripawds Foundation 's rehab reimbursment for the first visit to a certified rehab vet. There are also whole sections on this site for rehab and for other Tripawds gear.
Kathi and the Turbotail April Angel...and the Labradork
Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!
UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!
Welcome Nala!
My middle kid (Rosie) became a tripawd at 6 months and it was hard to keep her quiet during the recovery, she had so much energy! Take it slow for now and let the healing get going. Sounds like Nala is a champ and will bounce back in no time. Once the wound healed, we started using swimming as a good way to keep Rosie fit. Good luck on the journey!

Any advice on strengthening my pup and helping her live her life to the fullest...
We always recommend getting a professional evaluation by a certified rehab vet/tech (CCRT or CCRP ), that's why we created the Maggie Moo Fund for Tripawd Rehab. Also consider downloading Loving Life On Three Legs now available in the Tripawds e-books Library for lots of helpful tips, rehab vet interviews, and how-to videos for exercise and fun conditioning you can do at home.
