Cobalt is home! She's getting around just fine, I guess not being able to use the leg anyway for two months really helped develop her balance! She still has the cone as there are stitches on her groin where they took a biopsy of another lump. Thanks all for your support and I'll keep you updated! Here's a link to her first picture:
Great news, Cobalt. You'll be feeling great in no time. Enjoy being home where your humans can take care of you.

Welcome home Cobalt! Best wishes for a speedy complete recovery. Hang in there cutie, before you know it, you won't need that cone and you'll be Loving Life On Three Legs …

I hope Cobalt is doing fine, our dog Montana had her front left leg amputated on Mar. 3 so we are going thru the same as you are. This site has been very helpful. Just having Montana home was nice, she seems at times good and other times she seems anxious and unsettled , I do not know if it is her medicine or she is hurting. How is Cobalt doing?
Welcome home Cobalt- get some rest and in no time you'll be back in action. You are a beautiful girl.
To both Colbalt and Montana- you will find the first 2 weeks after surgery are filled with lots of ups and downs- it has been said that "the first 2 weeks are hell". The medications they are on will make them not seem themselves as you are used to. Wrigley had an episode on about the 5th day home where she would not stop yelping- we determined it to be the drugs, not necessarily pain. Jerry explained to us that sometimes those drugs can make them think "pink elephants are circling their heads". Some dogs have talked about the drugs making them pant non stop during the recovery period. So hang in there to both of you. Stay strong. All will be fine after your recovery period.
We are wishing you all the best.

Yeah, Cobalt is a bit growly sometimes and will occasionally jump up and yelp for no apparent reason. She's been on Tramadol for a couple of months now and just started Carprofen after this surgery so no doubt she's kind of loopy. She does seem unsettled too once and awhile but I'm sure it's just part of the recovery process. She did go outside and go the bathroom by herself so there are little blessings every day!
Sounds like Cobalt and Montana both are acting simular, I saw that Cobalt is a Ridgback / Greyhound mix , Montana is a German Shepherd/ Greyhound mix. I am sure Cobalt used to love to run and show off how fast he is., because Montana loved to run, I did dog a agility with her she was fast and i am sure Cobalt was like lightning also, I know Montana is going to live rest of her life happy, I am just sad she can' t run like she used to.
Rats! Almost got rid of the conehead! Brought Cobalt in today to have her bandage removed. They also took out the stitches from her groin where they had taken a biopsy. We had the cone off and took her home but a couple hours later I noticed the biopsy incision had opened up. Not sure if she licked it or it just popped open. Back to the doctor for sutures and back on with the cone for a couple of weeks. Her amputation stitches were fine though. I guess we just have to be patient a little bit longer…
Ouch! Poor baby. Watch the area to make sure it doesn't get infected. Good luck on the re-visit. Yeah, patience is what it takes to make it through this big hurdle, but it'll happen, we promise. Keep us posted.

Has anyone tried the plastic ring blow-up e-collar?
It's called a “Bonafido” collar. There are a couple of members here who tried it. You might want to Private Message them to ask, and see if they'll post their findings here to share with everyone.
Cartersdads posted about the Bonafido e-collar and also discussed the inflatable e-collar here.
and
Caseyr also talked about ordering the inflatable collar for her dog here
