Athena is doing great today!!! I talked to the vet at 8:30 am, and she had already been helped up with a sling and taken outside to go potty. She is doing a good job of walking already besides being helped to stand up. She even ate some food and they said that she appears comfortable- well, as much as you could be after a major surgery. I can't wait to see her and I hate that I'm stuck in classes all day! I will find out later if she will be coming home today.

She is home now. Laying on the floor. She is kind of making a hissing sound, laying there looking around. I am really trying to adjust to seeing her like this. I will update with a new blog post & pictures tomorrow.

Well be sure to remind her of how extra-beautiful she is now that she doesn't have that ugly cancerous leg dangling uselessly off her body!
It will be easier to adjust to seeing it once she's able to get around on her own better & you can accept that if it's ok with her, it should be ok with you.
I love Kermit's legless side- all smooth & silky- before it started growing back any hair I used to put my mouth on it & make "raspberry" noises like people do on babies' bellies. He was less than amused but when I'd laugh he'd have his revenge by licking my teeth.
Glad you got her home where you can give her lots of love... give her a hug from us, too!
Aww I'm glad to hear she's home.
Yes, it's a shock to get used to that missing leg area. You'll probably stare at it a million times a day at first. But give it a few weeks, and you'll forget what she ever looked like on four legs, I guarantee it. The beauty of seeing a dog overcome this kind of adversity outshines everything.
Hang in there and let us know how we can help.

Glad Athena's home with you. Come to this site anytime, especially the next several days as you see all the adjustments Athena goes through. You may see her experience a lot of whining, pacing and just generally not feeling good....and you may not!! Managing the pain...not over dosing, not under dosing...can be an interesting part of this adventure too!
Now for the most important thing g to watch for.....are you ready...............looking and peeing:-) We love, just love, pooping and peeing around here:-)
So be sure and come here and share poop and pee...will, not really "share"....as soon as you see those victorious moments!!
We're here sending you support! You are so strong! Sally and Happy Hannah
KERMIT....WE WANT PICTURES OF YOU LICKING YOUR MOM'S TEETH!!! The crowd is chanting, KERMIT! KERMIT!
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Haha. Well no poop since she has been home Wednesday afternoon. She is peeing in her favorite spot that we carry her to in the middle of the backyard. I'll be updating with a new blog post today.
