Hi all!

My name is Jen, and I joined this forum when my angel dog, Scout, lost her back left leg to osteosarcoma in July of last year. She fought bravely through her amp, IV and metronomic chemo. Sadly, the cancer spread to her lungs, and I let her go this past March.

A couple of weeks after Scout left for the bridge, a friend from the Yahoo bone cancer dogs message forum posted about a tripawd that she was helping to transport from a kill shelter to a foster home. "Friday" was a stray from western Kentucky. He was picked up by animal control and adopted out of that shelter by some well meaning but clueless folks. They took him home and set him loose. He promptly took off and was hit by a car. His back right leg was severely damaged, so the "adopters" turned straight around and returned him to the pound! Long story short, some kind souls at the shelter reached out to rescue groups to get funding for Friday's amputation. He underwent surgery on March 4, and after a few weeks of recovery, he set off with my online buddy Donna and her transport pals for a foster home in Minneapolis.

Friday charmed everyone he encountered along the way. By the time he made it to Minnesota, he'd left a string of admirers in his wake. When I saw his pic on bone cancer dogs, I fell in love, too! He looked like Scout and my first dog, Aussie angel Murray, had a puppy. Donna hooked me up with his foster mom, and a week later I was on the road to Minneapolis (from Little Rock) to pick him up. He seemed like a furry penny from Heaven that Scout sent to me, so I changed his name to Abe.

He could never replace Scout, but he sure has lightened the mood around our house. He's got my two middle aged Aussies acting like puppies again! He's a blast (literally), even on three legs! I feel so lucky that he came into our lives at just the moment we needed some fun and happiness.

I'm really looking forward to getting involved with the tripawd online community. I want to stay up to date on all the info I need to keep Abe happy and healthy. I also want to help spread the word about the wonders of tripawds! All of them will forever have a very special place in my heart that was carved out by my angel Scout!

Sorry for the long winded post, but can't wait to get to know you all and your fur babies!

Hugs to all,
Jen, Abe, Elliot and Emma

Hi Jen, Welcome back to the forums.  You must not have posted here before- your future posts will not require moderation.

I'm sorry to hear Scout's journey ended so soon.

I love that you adopted another tripawd and I LOVE his name!  Our Spirit pups do have a way of looking out for us.

I can't wait to learn more about your pack, and hopefully see pictures!

As a not so subtle hint here is How you add Photos to forum posts. big-grin

Congrats!  Oooooh, what a lovely penny indeed!  Welcome to your new, furever home, Friday.  You're in good hands.  Congrats, congrats, congrats!  HUGS!

ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12.  Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ!  No side effects.  We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments.  He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors!  Our love. Our funny little guy!

Thanks for the warm welcome, everybody! Here are some pics of my babies, both past and present.

This is my angel, Scout. She was a stray that I adopted in January of 2011. Less than 2 years later, she was diagnosed with osteoscarcoma at the ridiculously young age of 3. Sadly, I had to let her go in March of this year when her lung mets were starting to slow her down. She had fought so hard through everything, I couldn't stand by and watch her breathing worsen.

A couple of weeks after Scout died, I saw this photo posted on the bone cancer dogs discussion group. It's newly minted tripawd "Friday" on his way to Minnesota.

Hi Jen! I'm so glad you came here to start joining us in the Forums and update us about all of your news. Congratulations on your pack, they are all adorable and we're a little biased toward Abe of course! That story about how he ended back in the shelter really made me mad but I'm so glad he ended up in the RIGHT hands after all that.

We can't wait to follow along with your Tripawd adventures, thanks again for hopping into our community.
